Sellers usually pay all realtor commissions (at least in my area), so unless your son specifically gets the house for a lower amount due to the seller not having to pay a buyers agent commission, there is no harm in using one.

Ethically, I think you are fine to turn him down if he comes back to you.

Once he counter-offered, the original offer was off the table in my mind. Especially since time has passed. He has no way of knowing that you haven't started negotiated with others selling jeeps upon your offer being rejected.

I'm a little surprised at the responses as well. I grew up in Atlanta and of all my married friends...the bride's family paid for the wedding and the groom's family paid for the rehearsal dinner in about 90% of them. Didn't know this tradition was dying elsewhere.
