Re: A bit embarrassing, but I was looking at SS wrong

I’m not sure that either conception is “wrong” so to speak. The present conception you’re considering is one where you’re prioritizing a more-likely return of at least some of your SS dollars from the government as the primary motivation. My guess is that I doubt you’ll care whether Unlce Sam came o...

I'd be interested. Is there a keeper of contact info I should get in touch with?

Re: Present Value for Retirement Withdrawals Seems Awfully Low

Are you planning to have your home paid off by the time you retire? That’s a big reduction in expenses. Depending on your company health plan Medicare might be a reduction in your healthcare expenses.

Re: Is this a market bubble?

Your guess is as good as mine regarding what the market will do next. I've just dropped in to point out that markets are still off 20% from the highs of early 2020. The market has gone up in the last few weeks, yes, but it's still not UP relative to those highs.

Re: Bogleheads with $100K+ MSRP cars?

A 2015 Mercedes Benz GL63 AMG It was the fastest I could get seven people down the road at the time aside from a Tesla S with the rear-facing third row, and DW didn’t want the Tesla. It’s DW’s daily-driver; I’m in a 2016 BMW M2 which doesn’t meet your criteria in terms of MSRP. I’ll be honest and ad...

Re: Vanguard site is crashed now?

I thought that since Vanguard is a fund company, most of its clients are Bogleheads, 401k participants, and institutions, who are generally holding assets long term and do not, or cannot, buy and sell like they are on a trading platform, so they should not be panic buying (I can imagine some Bogleh...

Re: Vanguard site is crashed now?

What an embarrassment for Vanguard. If they're going to be boasting about the trillions of dollars invested with them, they probably should make sure they can handle that traffic when the rubber hits the road. I was trying to log in to buy, and couldn't. I'm VERY annoyed, and might need to take my i...

Re: How much money do you want to retire?

My age is 36, wife: 31. Current NW excluding paid off home = 1.7M. Goal is 3M by age 40 to have the option to retire or greatly modify my career to something less $ focused. My walk away no questions asked number is 5M, but I'd really like to also have enough SS credits banked so as to not leave $ o...

Congratulations! Many of us here have felt this same freedom you are feeling now. I have the same thoughts of gratitude toward this forum and its contributors. My advice going forward is to break the knob off of your hedonic treadmill with the speed set to "1."

Re: Father of eight hasn’t saved a penny for college

There is a lot of kid-hating in this thread. Something tells me you won't be hating his eight kids when their payroll taxes are cash-flowing your SS checks. Who will be subsidizing whom then? Why so much miserly thinking about large families?

Re: Payoff Car For Best Credit Score

A credit score of 810 doesn't need to be bolstered.
I second that.
