In many ways I agree, I think that like canopy, tilray aurora..... The big players, that they have a lot of earned value to make up for speculation pushing prices higher.

That said there are many smaller players that haven't really caught the wave yet.

Re: Has anyone invested in marijuana stocks?

Me. I went to a legal dispensary in Massachusetts, and the next day I came back and opened my play money portfolio with narrowing 12 companies down to 6 that I'd been researching for about 10 months. The dispensary had opened on 1/1 and projected 6-8 million for the year. It had done 17 million by June. Enough. I've seen it with my eyes. This isn't a fad, the genie isn't going back into the bottle, and the wheel is going to turn (maybe slowly) but barriers are coming down and this is going to be absolutely gigantic. One company I own's ceo gave an interview about discussing with his partner looking at Vegas where they'd been a mayor in Henderson and a councilman in Vegas, and run a successful real estate development venture as partners .... ...

Ever checked back in here.... It looks like it wasnt viable to do at the time financially. If you have one friend who's interested you can learn a hell of a lot just from YouTube and certain high level practitioners Instagram accounts. Your mechanics will not be solid from the ground up but you'll get a hell of a lot of training and practice and knowledge just from using free resources. You can hop on YouTube right now and watch literally hours of Eddie bravo playing rubber guard to mission control, to lockdown, and learn one move at a time and gradually chain them together. Good luck, and please remember, practice technique over brutality. I jacked myself up falling back on strength and stamina against better bjj classmates. All of my inju...

The only job that will make the LEOs here shake their head in pity. Corrections officer, or de-euphemitized Prison Guard. Would recommend? No. When I first got the job I took to para military like a duck to water and liked my job.... 5 years in now? I feel like I have to approach my job like alcoholism.... One day at a time. The Board added Vanguard Strategic Equity Fund. Here is the description. " Fund facts This actively managed fund purchases mid- and small-capitalization stocks that the advisor believes have above-average growth potential. The advisor relies on a computer-driven stock selection process in an attempt to build a portfolio with risk characteristics similar to those of the fund’s comparative index, while seeking to provide better returns. Because it focuses on medium-sized and smaller companies, the fund’s performance may be more volatile than that of the broad U.S. stock market. This fund may be considered complementary to a long-term portfolio with large-cap exposure." lol, i just hedged on energy a few months ago and bought into t...

Re: Changes to NYS Deferred Compensation Plan

I'm thinking of leaving the NYSDCP because of these changes and rolling over my funds into a Vanguard 401k. I like Vanguard's transparency and simplicity. What is the main benefit of the 457b vs 401k? Is it the lack of a 10% early withdrawal penalty if I retire before 59 1/2 yrs? If I do not plan to retire early, what are other reasons to leave funds in the NYSDCP? There is another option that is so hidden about this account NYSdcp has a deal with schwab that allows you to have a SRO, and buy any funds you want in the market. I don't remember how I stumbled across it, but when I spoke with a rep a few weeks ago she said that when you sign up they give you 3 options, go with target date if you're basic, full plan menu if you're intermediate...

Parents variable annuity 1035 to vanguard

I've finally convinced my parents to move an annuity they bought in 1999 to vanguard from edward jones (it's been held and transferred by multiple companies). Back story: In 1999 after watching his coworkers make money hand over fist in the stock market, my parents threw 100k in at the crest of the wave crash. At that time my father was 47 and my mother was 44. They found a "financial advisor" locally who sold them on a variable annuity with a front load fee (i believe) . They held in strong during the dips and i finally took a really hard look at it about two years ago after gradually becoming more and more suspicious of the balance and vehicle. 100k was in the 160s when we started this review in mid 2015. Upon review i wa...

3 2 week vacation slots if you have the time to use them...

accrue

PTO - 13 days/year scheduled, and 1 day off for each holiday that passes so approx 20 days/year. (320 hour cap)
Personal leave- 5 days
Sick time- 13 days/year

i worked a lot my first 3 years so my bank is very healthy, plan on taking all 6 weeks going forward.

after 7 years you accrue PTO at 19 days/year + 1 day/ holiday.

not to mention the ability to shift swap (work for someone else and yourself) and build your own vacations where people work for you.

Slightly confused by 457b selection and description

I was just reviewing my 457b plan offerings and there are several funds listed that have a "N/A" for expense ratio. Apparently they are funds managed by the state, as they don't have traditional listings like VTI or anything that is easy to locate. i emailed them today as i've been toying with the idea of market timing ( ) and wanted to know what the true cost of their "stable income fund" was. The reply i got really suprised me per the email "Any fund listed within the plan that has an N/A expense ratio has no expense ratio" ---- needless to say, i find that pretty hard to believe. I don't know why they wouldn't just list it as 0.0, as that would be a lot easier to understand at first glance. Two intern...

Re: is this wise? purchasing honda cbr 250r

my first street bike was a 96 cbr 600 f3.

it was plenty plenty plenty to learn on. Definitely sketchy at 18 on it.

i've got an 06 1k rr now and it is simply stupid fast.

----

get it and enjoy it. In a year, sell it for a slight loss and move on up once you have some seat time and road miles under your belt.

smaller bikes seem to devalue slower so you'll be good.

above all, do 0 modifications to it except maybe frame sliders. it's not worth putting anything into accessories to make it quicker.

next year i'd say look for a 600 supersport that's approx 10 years old. Should be cheap and you'll be entering a whole differrent world.

be safe chief.

Re: Am I a little crazy to be thinking this way?

Then, once I get to that point, I can spend time doing a ton of other things that I would like to do, such as travel the world and spend more time with friends/family, etc. ehhhh. balance dude. i'm a late investor and late into starting a career but i don't really regret the wild path my 20s held. you're young, handsome and free for a certain window in your life. i'd honestly feel cheated if i had locked in and skipped out on all that i did by being young and wreckless. granted i'll be working later than many on this board but i'm ok with that because stuff i got to do is literally priceless looking back on it. ---- so, i'd say balance. you do want to travel a bit and do some wild stuff while you're young, but you can do that while still a...

rome is fantastic.

i've heard good things about vinyl.

i'd recommend stepping out and catching some starz shows.

magic city and party down are very good. party down may be one of the funniest shows ever on television.

too bad starz had a tendency to give shows a 2 year leash then cut bait.

Re: Trade in BMW?

i'm trying so hard to find people selling cars like these.

between the rock and the hardspot. stealership wants to rob you on the trade in, private sale is a pain in the ass for a lot of people so they just take the trade in undercut.

Re: Poll: Let's talk wristwatches

i have a black g shock i purchased for myself when finishing a training academy for a new career.

the job doesn't allow cell phones inside the front door- so it stays in my glove box.

it's pretty damn durable and i think it was about 115. Looks good.

as for top end watches?

i grabbed a breitling knock while i was in thailand for ~40 usd. I really don't care about faking the funk- it looks really really sharp and holds time just fine. I wish i had bought a dozen of them and flipped them in hindsight.
