Re: accounting software for churches?

I have been involved in leadership with a number of congregations and have seen a couple of changes over the years. First step is to determine the needs of your congregation. Are you looking for just stand-alone accounting software, or are you looking for something that integrates with other databas...

Re: 2004 LEXUS RX 330

I can share my experience with a '99 RX 300. Loved the car but hated the repair bills. I drove it for 6 years from 70k-150k miles. It was a very enjoyable vehicle to drive. Smooth, quiet, comfortable. Plowed through quite a few blizzards in the AWD and never got stuck. But I gave it up when I was ab...

Re: Looking at a refurbished iPhone

I have done this three times, once through Apple and twice through my carrier (two different carriers). All 3 times I have been happy with the value, but I would suggest the Apple route. They put a fresh battery in the phone as part of the refurb, while based on my experience I don't believe the car...

Re: Budget car advice; so so tired of the noise levels

A used Lexus might be good, I have an RX350 and its so quiet sometimes I don't even know the engine is on. Maintenance is not too bad, Lexus IS basically a high end Toyata and can be repaired for half the price of the the Lexus dealership at a Toyota dealership. Is this true? How does that compare ...

Re: Breaking the iPhone cycle - Any Macbook users with Android Phones?

ThankYouJack wrote:$225 through Apple. And you'd probably get more $ if you're willing to sell it on Craigslist

My local Craigslist market values an iPhone 6 at $300-$500 depending on specks. This tends to be the best way to get the value from your old phones.

Re: Breaking the iPhone cycle - Any Macbook users with Android Phones?

Also, consider resale value. You could probably get > $200 for your current iPhone.? I have upgraded twice now by selling my old units and purchasing refurbed units of last years' model. Save about $200 on the refurb and get about $250 for the old unit so my total cost of ownership runs $10-$12 a m...

Re: selecting Airline for international travel WWYD?

I have made 3 round-trips between the States and Australia with a child between the ages of 9 months and 5 years (26-42 hour trip), as well as a number of domestic trips. Go for the non-stop. If I was traveling by myself I would pick the cheapest option every time as my tolerance for discomfort is r...

Re: Employer now offering their discounted stock purchase plan?

The dividend is not a benefit. You get a 15% benefit, plus whatever the stock returns, whether that is price appreciation or dividends. If a company has $20M of cash and pays a $10M dividend, the value of the company must decrease by $10M, as shareholders on the day after the dividend own a company...

Re: Employer now offering their discounted stock purchase plan?

If you really can buy at a 15% discount and sell 30 days later, then it seems like a great investment to me. You are accepting some non-systematic risk by holding an individual stock, especially one correlated with your employment. However, the discount and short holding period is far more than eno...

Re: Employer now offering their discounted stock purchase plan?

May be helpful: https://thefinancebuff.com/employee-stock-purchase-plan-espp-is.html I'd only consider it after maxing out your 401k, IRA, and HSA. Agreed with above on max other available options first. I have a similar plan available with my employer who matches 15%. Since the stock pays a 3% div...

Re: Washer died. Seeking recommendations for a top loader.

I would second the suggestion for LG. We were in the market for new units a year ago and after doing a fair bit of research on different forums, Consumer Reports, etc we decided on an LG. Ended up getting one of their base models: http://www.lowes.com/pd_525683-49317-WT1101CW___ but is much nicer th...

I have purchased 3 used cars private party and all have worked out well. I agree with JeffAL on paperwork, have a pre-purchase inspection at a mechanic you trust and CarFax is a good idea. Good luck!

You will find that you can make it work. Sounds like you have a nice start to your life and career. Prioritize and don't let financials delay what is important. I am a decade beyond you and will say that one of my biggest regrets is that we waited a bit to start the family. Mainly from my side becau...

Re: Combo Laundry Room/Food Pantry

We have a combination Laundry Room/Food Pantry in our current house. It is very handy being located off the kitchen. It was a winning feature for DW. The long table could be useful. If space is a concern, the table could be located above front load washer/dryer. Good luck.

I just read an article about Sam's Club being the first US retailer to roll out Chip & Pin chain wide. My new card arrived with that, and I also noticed that Walmart has the same terminals.

Re: Cutting cell phone expenses

I am also in Minneapolis and recently changed my cell service. Changed from Verizon to Straight Talk. Purchased refurbished iPhone 5 at a great price. These model of phones run on the Verizon towers, so same service level. But now only pay $45 per line. Works for us and saves some $$$s. Plus no cont...
