Re: Blocking callers on Iphone
I use to get six to eight spam calls a day on my house phone. I am down to about that number in a week. I think I maybe on the spammers do not call list but who knows? Most calls just hang up, some leave a message and some I engage. When I pick up a call and it's a spammer and I have the time I go into full "spam the spammer mode". It usually only takes the spammer a minute or two before they are asking for something. Whatever they ask for I tell them it's upstairs and to please hold on that it will only be a few minutes as I now have an extra walker on the second floor. I just put the phone down and go about my business never going upstairs. My goal is to keep them on the phone for as long as possible. In five to ten minutes I ch...

Re: Should I worry about personal info shared during scam phone calls?
I have gotten two spam calls in the last two days and over the last month the calls have dropped off significantly. I usually get 6 to 8 a day. What's going on? Have the spammers finally given up on me? I usually don't answer the any calls unless I recognize the number but when I do I go into full tuna fishing mode. Spammers will think they have an easy mark. Whatever they ask for is always upstairs and it's going to take me a few minutes to get up there so they should hold on until I pick up the extension. I then proceed to put the phone down and go about my business downstairs. I pick up the phone every five minutes or so and give an update of my process in finding what the spammers want. My record holding the spammer on the phone was abo...

I did your journey about 5 years ago and went with free Google Voice using an Obihai 200 device. The Obihai device is approaching end of life date this December so I am researching to see if I need to replace my Obihai device. I kept my 5 house phones with my 20+ year old answering machine. I purchase 911 service thru GV911.com for $1 a month. It's important to have 911 service for kids and the elderly. Don't cheap out that. My house phone and my cell phone ring at the same time. My AT&T cell phone plan is very good at identifying spam calls. If you decide to use your house phones be sure to unhook the Verizon phone power cord to avoid a power surge. I stayed with Verizon internet for $39.99 a month by using a debit card and I purchased...

You currently have a credit card on file. If you’d like to continue receiving your $10 monthly AutoPay & Paperless discount per line, go to att.com/change or call us at 800.331.0500 to update your payment type to a debit card or bank account. Want to continue using the credit card on file? No problem. We will continue to process your bill and payment as usual, now with a monthly $5 discount per line. Sometimes firefighters and policemen are required to retired before a certain age for various reasons. As a previous commentator said you don’t want to be fighting fires or climbing ladders to the second/third floor in your sixties. With that being said, you still need health insurance when you retire until at least you are eligible for Medicare or even after you have Medicare. Firefighters, law enforcement and others are considered public safety officers (PSO) for tax purposes and retired public safety officers may be able to reduce their taxable income by excluding up to $3k from their income for health, dental, vision and long term care insurance premiums. My father served as a private under Patton in the 6th Armored Division(Super 6th), 50th Infantry Battalion Company B. He said he never aspired to get promoted because sergeants didn't last very long. Landed at Utah beach in July 44 and ending his army service when the war ended in Germany. Four bronze stars for valor and receiving a purple heart with an oak leaf cluster (wounded twice). He refused to talk about his military experience until a couple months before he passed and then only limited conversation. I visited the same woods around Bastogne, Belgium (Battle of the Bulge) that he served in my research of his infantry battalion war experiences. According to the battle maps it was the same woods as Easy Company of the Band of Brothers....

Re: Would greatly appreciate clarification on paying bills online
Your question seems to have been answered so far. Since you mentioned Verizon, I and probably a lot of other people, have a different setup for payment. I have internet only which if I recall correctly is $49 a month. I make a payment directly to Verizon thru their website and if I use their credit card I get a $10 discount. I don't have their CC so I use my debit card from my local bank and I also get the discount. Likewise, I pay my AT&T phone bill using automatic payment with a CC that offers rewards. I like working the system. Your mileage will vary.

With a repair like that I would start with utube to see if there are any videos on the repair. The videos will help you make a decision whether to attempt the repair. Many years ago I tackled a repair of an electric range when a light on the range top would not go out. After watching about a dozen videos I repaired the range. Good Luck.

Lots of discussion on checked vs unchecked luggage. I look at it this way, the chances of a gloved TSA agent searching a bag are greater when the bag is larger and packed with lots of stuff. I always think of where those gloved hands have been prior to going thru my bags. I'm sure they have touched a lot of dirty clothes. The TSA agent is wearing those gloves for his/her own protection and not for protecting the health and cleanliness of my clothes. I'll stick with checking my bags. It's worth the money.

There are exclusions in all warranties. The first and only new car warranty I ever purchased was in the 1980's and I used it once for an electrical issue. The shop repaired the issue but I still had to pay for a half-dozen burned out light bulbs that were, of course, excluded. Lesson learned.

Re: Retiring to a New Job - Looking to Glide to new AA over 7 years
Medical, dental and vision insurance is very expensive, I would guess in the $12k to $20k range for your new employer. Any chance negotiating a salary increase for not to taking insurance from the new job since you already have insurance as a retiree? The increase would have to be worth your trouble to purchase dental/vision maybe privately plus the $300 a month to cover your son.

I would suggest that you temporarily try Linux by booting from a thump drive to see which distro you prefer. You can get access to the top 100 linux distro's from www.distrowatch.com I use Mint (ranked third) but you might like something else. You can burn it to the thumb drive using https://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ Depending on your laptop you might have to change the boot order to get it to work. In my case I turned the laptop on with the thumb drive in the USB port and press F12 to boot from the thumb drive. Some laptops it's F11. Sometimes you have to change the BIOS boot order to get it to boot. Keep in mind that Google is you friend just ask it a question and watch a lot of videos. I actually use Li...

He was a county employee and had to elect PEBB right away. We didn’t hear good reviews about the plan and since I was going to work longer, he elected to go on my health insurance then switch to ACA when I retired. Just make sure that if he drops his insurance eligibility when he retires to go on your insurance that he can go back and purchase the insurance when you retire. Some retirement plans have provisions that once you drop the plan you can't get it back. Keep in mind, there are some strange rules when retiring. In my case in order to be eligible to purchase insurance in retirement you had to have had it for 5 years prior to retirement. Also have him research the PSO exclusion requirements that the IRS has. We're heading to multiple countries in EU for a couple of weeks and it seems our only means of being able to receive an occasional call when mobile (and for SMS) will be to rent a phone. We can use Google Voice for outgoing calls from the PC when in hotels - and we can forward our existing phones to another USA number attached to a rented phone. The rented phone will be handy for GPS functions when we're out and about. Do any of you have experience with one of the phone-rental companies based here in the USA? Opinions or recommendations? This exclusion is for retired police officers, firefighters and others that are considered retired public safety officers (PSO Tax Exclusion). One of the requirements, and there are many, is that the health insurance premium must come directly from the pension. I would check with your local union, association or pension provider which probably dealt with this in the past.

They can't be smarter than traditional Victor snap traps! Go buy about a dozen of them, smash and form a raisin into the bait pan, set along every baseboard of every wall in the house or garage or entry way, point the trap with the bait against the baseboard so they have to get to it from the side, and simply throw the trap away after you have last supper guests. You'll probably have several guests initially then not many after that. Remember; these bastards are always hungry and always looking for a place to nest and generally travel along the baseboards and not out in the open. Good luck. This method has worked for me for years in my house as well as my storage building. I agree the Victor snap traps are the best. https://www.amazon.com/...

I like 2FA. I want it every time I login. I also put it on every account that offers it including my banks, ebay, and amazon.
