you don't need a dish on your roof if you go satellite; you can order the dish installed on a pole in your yard. i would never put a dish on the roof for several reasons. i tried directtv now (streaming) but i was never able to watch a basketball game without buffering and freezing so i cancelled it...

i'm not handy at all so i have an annual contract.

i've never been sold something i haven't needed in the 30 years i've had the contract. HVAC is a dirty industry -- find someone honest and keep em around.

i pay for a digital subscription.

i prefer to read the real newspaper -- but i travel frequently -- and i don't want newspapers sitting in the driveway telling the crooks i'm not home. they're not very good at vacation stops and starts -- and many of my trips are spur of the moment.

wow -- sounds like something has to be wrong.

every dishwasher i've owned has cleaned like it should. i won't get a maytag again, though, it had a design flaw that required that the door latch be replaced ever 12-18 months. the repair guy had seen this issue at other homes.

when i saw the thread title i knew that truffles and gold was coming -- seen too many cooking shows.

a disadvantage i've found is that other people with the same name as mine use "my" gmail account as their junk email account. i've identified a couple of them on linked-in.

fwiw, i recommended to my sons that they take their lunch 4 days a week to save money, and eat out with co-workers one day a week to facilitate relationships. obviously they can socialize in the cafeteria the days they bring their lunch.

I tried to get a PIN two years ago (FL resident) but was in ble to get it and was told by my CPA that it was most likely because I had frozen my credit. i don't buy scratch offs. i spend $2 a week on my state's lotto ($1 twice a week). $2 a week is peanuts, and to have the opportunity to win life changing money for me, my kids, and so on is worth the contribution for college scholarships. i don't do scratch offs as they don't have life changing money.

Just curious, has anyone who has an umbrella policy ever actually had damages paid out from the umbrella policy? That is, the required first line of defense policy (auto, home, etc) paid limits and the additional money provided by the umbrella policy was reached and dispensed? 800k plus attorney.

no one thinks they will ever be the one at fault in auto accident...but stuff happens. carry 250k (minimum in my state) liability on your cars and your umbrella sits on top of that.

i froze mine a couple years ago and have only needed to thaw it once.

of course, the true boglehead strategy would be to wait until they are a victim of identity theft. then you can freeze it with no charge. :)
