Thank you for your insight. The dividends and capital gains are already being swept into the settlement account. Thinking about using part of the settlement to pay for the RMD. Have already used some of the money for QCD too. My AA right now is 54/46.

Re: Planning for retirement giving: DAF and QCD strategy

Just did my first QCD for 2024 and it is a whole lot easier than last year.
You choose an amount and then it asks where you want to the money to go: choose payable to charity and it's an RMD and QCD both.

RMD withdrawal

I have to take approx. $15K from my RMD for 2024.
I have 3 funds to consider:

VSGDX Short Term Fed Fund 26%
VTSAX Total Stock 24%
VWENX Wellington 50%

From where would you take the money to satisfy the RMD? Presently it will go to my individual brokerage account (settlement account).

P.S. Thank you for pointing out my % mistake.

My federal income taxes are reduced because I had a QCD issued for $300 in 2023 for a valid 501c3 charity.

Can I use that same $300 for the same charity as an Arizona tax deduction also?

Beneficiaries

Presently my set up for the beneficiaries are as follows:

IRA:
Spouse 40%
Granddaughter #1 25%
Granddaughter #2 25%
Their mother 10%

Roth and brokerage accounts:
Spouse 100% each
Is it wise to give spouse 100% each ?

I didn't want to give my spouse a higher percent in an IRA since he has the same amount in his IRA. He presently is a couple of years away from taking his RMDs. My granddaughters are 24 years old and are just started to asking questions about investing. Both have been saving for awhile.

Presently my spouse and I have approximately the same amounts saved in Vanguard accounts.

What are your thoughts about my percentages for spouse in each of the accounts?

Just moved funds from my RMD to a just opened settlement account in my brokerage.

Up until now, I have my 3 funds set to reinvest:
Total Stock VTSAX, Intermediate Term Tax Exempt VWIUX and Long-Term Tax Exempt VWLTX.

Is it preferable for tax reasons to have the dividends and capital gains automatically sent to my Settlement A/C?
Presently, if I need additional emergency money, I transfer it from my RMD to either VTSAX or my checking A/C.

Vanguard Cash Deposit

[2022 thread bumped in 2023 --admin LadyGeek]

Just went into my account and was offered the following:

Now you have a choice for your settlement fund. Choose between Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund, which invests in short-term U.S. government securities, and Vanguard Cash Deposit paying 2.6%, which is a bank product. Both options strive to provide capital preservation. However, they may perform differently depending on the interest rate environment.

If you also have funds in Vanguard, what are your thoughts?
