Any news on whether this is the current opinion letter?PigBodine wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 3:50 pm Hello,
Trying to get a jump on filing 5500EZ this year. There is a new line in 5500EZ (line 12) which asks about date and serial number of the IRS favorable opinion letter for pre-approved plans of which I think Vanguard, and most boilerplate soloK providers, is one.
Based on this PDF, https://www.vanguard.com/pdf/s578.pdf, there appears to be an IRS approval letter at the end with a date of 9/21/20 and serial of Q704157a.

Re: I'll never regret not having international funds in my portfolio
I have decided to exclude international funds from my portfolio. I have watched a lot of videos about Mr. Bogle and he also excluded them and saw no reason to own any. What are your thoughts on either including or excluding international from your portfolio? Try to read books instead of watching videos. You may come to a different conclusion. Would you be able to spell out your reasons for excluding close to half of the stock market, other than "Bogle made me do it" ? By the way, "never" is an extremely long time and you know what they say: Given an infinite time, everything happens. This is actually a pretty important point. YouTube videos are absolutely useless when it comes to finance and you should avoid them.

Bait and switch. Hopefully, someone undercuts them soon. 401GO is a fairly new platform, and is a bit rough around the edges compared to Guideline's interface, but offers Vanguard index funds, and is undercutting Guideline. They have a 0.07% AUM fee, but it can be born by the employer. My company's plan assets are 90% owned by company owner/family, so the company being able to pay & deduct the fee is desirable. Additionally, the employer's monthly headcount fee is lower, and has no base monthly fee. They also offer SIGNIFICANT flexibility in plan document design. Guideline is extremely rigid. Both 401GO and Guideline are a 3(16) and 3(38) fiduciary. If you have a large amount of employees/plan assets, Vanguard/Ascensus is a great choic...

Yes, you can enter it manually on turbotax. But once you check box 6, that triggers Turbotax to add the tax and 10% penalty.Williams57 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 5:05 pm I have Colorado's 529, so it's not Vanguard, but in my form box 6 is checked as well - I am the owner and the beneficiary, so this should not have happened. I already filed my taxes, and I am not going to amend - if they question me I will show the receipts for my spending, and it has my name on it. As long as you have that kind of documentation I would think you'll be fine. You can manually enter it all on Turbotax, right? You don't have to upload it?

Vanguard 529 - Form 1099-Q box 6 checked
I was issued a form 1099-Q by Vanguard's 529 plan and box 6 ("Check if the recipient is not the designated beneficiary") was checked. This appears to cause tax liability on Form 5329 5, 7, and 8 (10% penalty on gains). According to Vanguard, they check box 6 when you request the funds to be sent via electronic transfer but not if a check is sent. Vanguard's reasoning was that the funds were sent back to the account of the "owner" so they can check the box. This makes no sense (when the owner is also the beneficiary). Vanguard told me there is no reason to enter the 1099-Q form into turbotax if the funds were used for the benefit of the beneficiary so it shouldn't matter whether Box 6 is checked or not. Has anyone had thi...
