Re: Community charity best digital method to collect funds
Thanks. Venmo charity charges 1.9% and $0.10 per transaction for all donations. Donors don't pay a fee if they use a credit card, for venmo charities the donor is exempt from the usual 3% fee for credit card -funded payments, so a pretty nice way to do it.Broken Man 1999 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:43 am Despite your charity incurring a "swipe" fee, I would think accepting credit cards would appeal to the majority of people.
Personally I don't use Venmo or a check to donate to any charities, only a credit card.

Thank you. I've found another article from Dec '22 referencing this Venmo charity program with pro's/con's and alternatives. Looks like a good route to go and is PayPal backed so should be well supported.bloom2708 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 9:57 am Research a Venmo charity profile.

I think you want to use an app like Venmo that has wide usage. Just one thought off the top of my head.
They do have a fee, but finding a good option with no fee might be difficult.

Community charity best digital method to collect funds
Our community scholarship team runs mailer membership drives and fundraisers, and we still ask for payment via paper check.
I'm looking for recommendations on how to set up a digital payment process we can use on physical mail, email, social media that won't drain significant fees but is scalable for a program that takes in and gives out $100k-$300k per year (and obviously looking to grow those numbers).
Thank you

Companies that buy it can used it for parts. Many people just want a cheap machine they can give their kids (who will probably break it in short order) to play games.

Re: Of what use is an obsolete iPad?
I'm trying to decide whether to trade in an iPad 3, cellular. Works fine, replaced with newer. It can't upgrade past iOS 9, so won't run lots of apps. Apple offers $30, and a check of eBay shows about $100. I'm not going to sell privately, too much trouble, so it's $30 or put it on my shelf for reasons I can't fathom. The question: do obsolete iPads have any utility worth $30? Why does someone pay $30-100 for an obsolete iPad that literally won't run many apps nowadays? What do they use it for? I have an iPad 1 - literal first one that came out - that I use exclusively to run pandora via Bluetooth speaker. I can't do much else with it, sometimes the kids fight over it to play an old game where this pickup truck races up and down hills and ...

Re: USPS shipping: Caveat Emptor
It's amazing (partial pun!) what people expect nowadays. It wasn't too long ago that no one expected packages to take less than a month to get anywhere. And there was no such thing as tracking. I just ordered something 5 minutes ago and it will be at my house tomorrow, but won't come via USPS. My son sent some keys back to his college apartment (hasn't been there since March) via USPS with the tracking thing. The tracking said it got stuck. I suggested he call the property management company: Yep, they already had received his keys a week ago. I think the top managers are finding out that they cannot wave a magic wand and all their employees will instantly suck it up and meet their demands. This plays out over and over in every industry. Re: wait for new toyota sienna?
I'm in the market for a new minivan with leather seating, leaning towards the Sienna XLE (highest rated in Consumer Reports). The 2021, a redesign which will be a hybrid, is coming out in a few months. Should I wait for it? I have a 2017 Sienna XLE AWD and love the thing. Unlike what someone mentioned above, the middle seats are easily removable and I can haul about five sheets of 3/4" plywood and still get the rear door shut. Anymore than that and the geometry of the center pillar between the front row seats and the angle of the door prevent the door from shutting all the way. It is the one major drawback the Sienna has compared to the Odyssey which I could haul a dozen sheets. Personally, if would buy a 2020 model if you find one. D...

The one big downside is that the middle row isn't removable, which limits what you can haul.
We have an older Odyssey, and I'm hoping we can keep that going for another few years, at which point a used '21 Sienna would be on the short list.
Half the reason to get a van is so you can fit a 8x4 sheet of ply wood, or the like. This strikes me as crazy!

I have caught up on the whole Star Wars series, as well. Disney+ also includes National Geographic and DH is enjoying the Marvel movies, in supposed chronological order. With Britbox, I paid for the whole year to bring down the monthly costs, but with Disney, I don't think we will keep it even close to 10 months. I would cancel after one month if it weren't for DH enjoying the Marvel movies. We got the deal (3yrs for $150), but it is not worth it for us. Even with two young kids, there is so little content that my kids don't really bother to go to it when the TV is turned on. They defer to Netflix/Hulu instead. I don't see us renewing when the 3yrs is up, and I have less than zero interest in Hamilton. Not our experience whatsoever. Betwee...

No reason for the candidate to even know OP is active on LinkedIn or have any kind of expectation that they correspond this way. Cherry pits with water running work well to clean disposers. They do make a lot of noise though! It's the recommended method I read in my garbage disposer manual years ago. This is interesting, I've never heard of this. OP, #1) I keep a stylish painted mason jar of baking soda next to the hand and dish soap pumps on my sink (buy the large cereal box size quantity for only like $1 more than the small boxes of Arm & Hammer). A couple times a week just before I go to bed, I pour 1/4 cup or so into both drains (disposal side and drain side) and let it sit. It can just rinse the next day when the sink is used. This does a truly remarkable job of absorbing odors. I'll swear by it over anything else I've tried including whole chunks of citrus...

Ally kept the rates competitive for existing money, and the $250 promo for new money made for an effective 5.5% APY, well above market rate. It sent emails to existing customers so they could get it, too.
Capital One dropped the rates to an uncompetitive level for existing customers, didn't tell them about it, also didn't tell them about the new account. If they opened the new account, they got a competitive rate, but no better.
You've twisted yourself into quite a pretzel defending Capital One but have yet to articulate any advantage from the consumer's perspective for Capital One's online savings product.

Capital One had my back when a computer company sent me a computer that would get the blue screen of death. It was beyond their 30 day return policy, and capital one used their muscle to get me every penny of that $8000 computer back. No restocking fee, nothing. I couldn't be happier with my Capital One experience. I can say that I have had other credit card companies change their due date, and perform all kinds of shady tricks. Capital One is one of the best for integrity and service, and if you want to go to some discount credit union for a better rate, by all means do so. Adjusting rates according to their own returns is anything but shady. They don't notify you they are reducing your interest rate. They don't notify you when there is a...

I've been thinking about this from time to time as well and yesterday pulled the trigger. A call to Geico (auto through them as was home which is serviced by travelers), and within about 15 minutes I had signed off on a $1M policy for $350. Took effect midnight last night.
Incidentally the coverage AMOUNT wasn't even discussed, it was just assumed to be $1M.
My $1M 20yr term life insurance costs about $1200/yr. That made me feel a bit unsettled seeing how much more likely it is that I DIE than get sued beyond current coverages.

Using fats are good. I like to do mayo, ranch, garlic and a chicken or pork rub seasoning overnight, then grill.
Really important to do a fatty marinade if you are grilling in terms of meat absorbing carcinogens. This comes out really tender and doesn't taste like mayo/ranch, just a great medium for managing the cook.

I'm selling a massive extension ladder right now and delivery is not an option. Of course, when I bought it, delivery was mandatory! Hence why I bought it from a place that supported delivery of a 15' long 50lb item. I have negotiated meeting points. My favorite is our public library which is a 2 minute walk through the woods behind my house ;) and adds a couple layers of safety-peace-of-mind, and would probably prevent someone looking to 'crime' you from agreeing to the transaction. I agree with another post... if it were an item I could deliver and they needed me to do so in order to buy and they weren't far, I would. I don't really sell on craigslist to 'make money'. I love it when I either buy or sell an item for 50% of the NEW selling ...

Re: Is Capital One 360 bank account OK?
I believe the $450 bonus for existing customers was discussed here: https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=313277 Thanks for sharing. This answered my question... my specific circumstances exclude me. What a needle to have threaded. Not for HYSA existing customers if this is the offer: https://www.capitalone.com/score500/?external_id=360B_MM_SEM_71700000066042767GOOGLE58700005830532885_43700053298118861&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhZr1BRCLARIsALjRVQP3rFKGlNhMIx9dngI21RG_SknT1QI5Y5zhEwaa8SQJ2oHw-KA3n04aAvGZEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Open a 360 Performance Savings account between 12:00 a.m. ET on April 16, 2020, and 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31, 2020. Re: Is Capital One 360 bank account OK?
No bonuses for existing customers either obviously. Those were paid for by existing customers' slippery sliding savings rates over time. Not true. I was emailed a few weeks ago. The offer was to add $50,000 to my performance savings by 5/31, keep for 2 months, and earn $450. Not quite as good as the new customer offer, but not bad either. You could also only add $20,000 and earn $150 or something similar. Wow, I did not receive this offer. Were you already a "Performance Savings" customer? I didn't have that, just a legacy savings account. I opened the Perf Savings account on May 11. When did you receive this offer? Yes, I was already a performance savings customer. Like others, I was ticked to see they created that without telli...

and a broker hahalivesoft wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 9:51 amThere is absolutely no need to watch the markets daily for a big drop because one can tell their broker to alert one via text or e-mail when there is a big drop. So one can blissfully live life unaware that a big drop has happened until they get the text message or e-mail indicating that. Of course, it does means that one has a cell phone and that the cell phone is turned on in an area where there is a cell signal.JLJL wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 9:46 am..., you need to know that you really should watch the markets daily to see how they are moving, so you can do the transaction toward the end of the trading day, before 4pm the day of the bad stuff happens.

Re: Lump sum vs Dollar Cost Averaging during volatile market
It doesn't matter what you do, but if this was a day like March 16, 2020, then I surely would have lump-summed it in on that. Did you have the cash on March 16? Or March 18? Or April 1? <snip> Agreed. Caution though that In deploying this strategy which could be a good one to combat regret (can't fault myself for buying after such a historically bad day), you need to know that you really should watch the markets daily to see how they are moving, so you can do the transaction toward the end of the trading day, before 4pm the day of the bad stuff happens. Buying index/mutual funds will transact at the close price for that day (or Monday close if you trade after 4pm on Friday). So if Monday the 16th drops 3000 pts but you make the trade that ...

Re: Is Capital One 360 bank account OK?
I've had accounts there since they were ING direct - no issues, easy to use interface/ap I have savings accounts at Capital One and Barclays. No problems with either. As another user mentioned, there are threads about Cap. One if you want to check those out. It seems they're not as transparent as other banks with notifications about rate decreases. But I think their decreases/increases in rates are consistent with other banks. Rates are going down pretty much everywhere right now. Be careful though. If you have older savings accounts with them make sure you go look at them. Legacy CapOne savings accounts are at (or maybe below) 0.5% right now as they've been dropping it over time. As an existing customer you literally have to go in and sig...

Re: Is Vanguard's Personal Advisor Service Worth It???
Similar to rockAction we have put a small portion of our portfolio into PAS. As rockAction has found, PAS includes our entire portfolio into the retirement calculations so the benefits extend beyond the limited funds that it currently manages. But here's our main rationale - the last thing that I want when I'm no longer around (no worries I'm fine now) is for my spouse to have to fend off calls from brokers and their "hot" investment ideas. Like many people, managing investments is not something that she would enjoy. We have already established an AA and risk tolerance that would be applicable for the entire portfolio and the future. So at the right time, it's a simple task to slide the entire portfolio into the PAS account and i...

Re: I freaked out…now what?
In summary, I'm near retirement(60) and have 900K that I need to get back in the market. 80% of it pretax. In my mind I need to pick a date and start cost averaging back in (w/3 fund approach). Somehow that date is still somewhere in October for me or at least at some major downturn. If anyone has a better idea I'm all ears. Thanks for the feedback. You have about 700k in pre-tax money, retirement vehicles, and $200k in taxable. Let's assume that taxable is all on top of a secure emergency fund, which in your case is critical since you are losing your job? A rhetorical question... is it harder for you to see losses in that taxable money? It shouldn't but for me I mentally account for those dollars differently than my pretax money, even tho...
