Re: 1099/sep ira question regarding payment for 2023 work
Assuming that you're running your business on a cash (rather than accrual) basis you would recognise the income when it's received. So it would be for 2024 not 2023, in the examples above. Your SEP contribution is 20% of your net business income less 1/2 of your self employment tax. You can make the contribution at any point during the year, and up until your tax filing deadline for the year (April of the next year). It doesn't have to be in the month that you receive the income, but it can't be in the wrong year. So, in your case, you couldn't use the income you received in 2024 to make a 2023 contribution, but you could make a 2024 contribution anytime in 2024 instead. Thank you, it sounds like i would have to recharacterize my excess 20...

1099/sep ira question regarding payment for 2023 work
If i worked for my client in Novmber 2023 and i invoiced them on 1st december and received the payment on January 15 ( term of payment net 45 ) will that payment be included in 2023 1099 or 2024's . Similary for December . My client has send me 1099 which does not include payment amount for November and December 2023 and i want to know what should be the 1099 rules .
I assume the same rule will apply to SEP IRA contribution for 2023 ? Where i am putting in 20% of my total amount invoiced .So do i contribute to 2023 SEP IRA for the month of Nov and Dec 2023 ( which i received in January and Feb 2024 )
thanks

529 to Roth conversion is best option , otherwise pass it down to next generation of grandkids , or withdraw with penalties when you have low income /taxes , the beauty of 529 is that you get tax break when you contribute and it grows tax free / no taxes when you withdraw
