Those returns look pretty merger compared to if you had bought just about anything else. You took a big risk and got a very small reward... I agree it was just my play money move . real estate that has IRR (rental properties) could be better than bonds . + factor in tax benefits and potential appreciation . It's hard to get good returns on bonds with leverage but it's possible in rental real estate

If you only want to commit a small amount of money, it would have to be something with a lot of leverage in order to make a meaningful impact. So options for example or FX. And you would want to be very contrarian, i.e. make a concentrated bet on something with a low probability, but a big pay off ...

if you choose to buy investmnt proerty ( which is not for the faint of heart ) i recommended buying it within 1 hour driving distance of your primary home . if something goes wrong you should be able to get there quickly .
