Definitely an issue when I went to deposit $500 in sons account at Chase, they would not take it. So I wrote a check. Seems crazy to me, we have the same last name. If they has a dollar limit like $10K I might understand. No way to get 'permission' except to add me to the account.

I went for VG Star fund (VGSTX) for my son's first IRA when he was in high school. He has continued with it for 10 years now. It has been better and worse than several alternatives over the years but it has been a good, diversified selection and requires no management on his part.

The payment plan is a good one. If all elase fails there is nothing wrong with being debt free. Friend is still young enough to rebuild savings. Hate to lose Roth savingings but not blowing the money so let it go. Suggest a Roth when funds become avialable.

retired 10 years ago and wife 12 years ago, portfolio is 2X what we retired with, not inflation adjusted. Pensions and dividends cover more than our expenses.

The advice from my local Mac Users Group is to wait a bit. When the next update to the desktop OS10.10 comes out it will sync with iOS 8 through iCloud and until then there may be glitches getting desktop and mobile device to sync.
