I don't use my 457. My thing is that if I change jobs, I end up with all of the money handed to me unless I go somewhere that also has a 457 and accepts roll overs. Depending on your salary, that could bump you up a bracket or two for that year

Ditto. Don't gamble it away. It is the only way I have less than average outstanding student loans.
Take out as little as you need, learn to live on generic pb&j, and then pay the difference back at the end of the semester. Keep a bit for emergencies.
