It doesn't cost 10k to go to Europe for two people. Wife and I have gone several times and it runs us about 4k for a 10-day trip (using points for the flights)...

I took it back 6 years prior to make it an even 40 year period and did only US stocks as opposed to a 50/50 domestic/international split. 100/0 beat 80/20 by an entire million and beat the 60/40 by almost 2 million. Back-testing gets pretty useless once you get too detailed IMO. Anyone can back-test...

A lot of people my age (upper 20s) seem pretty content with the expectation of working until 70. I think a few more years of working will change their mindset.

FYI your TTRS account should have a balance in it. This is part of your retirement. If you leave the Texas public school system you can transfer this balance over to an IRA I believe.

I travel for work and get to put it all on my personal card. So a lot. I think right now I have about 400k points on credit cards and 250k miles on United. And I've blown through about 600k points/miles the past 3 years.

Get a credit card with no foreign transaction fees

I travel a lot for work and just use Whatsapp.. rarely use data or send texts that aren't on Whatsapp. Every young person in Europe uses it.

Can you leave the dog with family or friends? That's always our first option.

Worst case scenario we board our dog. There is a place near us that let's them play outside for most of the day so she's not just stuck in a cage the whole time.

It's better to have your credit cards at a different bank than the one you use for other banking. If you read the fine print on all the accounts, the bank can take money from your savings or checking accounts if there is a dispute on the credit card accounts. My suggestion is to either change banks...

We rented a VRBO in Florence just a couple of months ago. It was about $100 a night and was probably bigger than most hotel rooms there. Great location too. Check out VRBO and Airbnb for sure.

Very worth it if you have a vacation in mind you want to take. Personally I would just get enough points for economy fare tickets at a minimum. There's no logical reason to not use a credit card. Points, fraud protection, and ease are the major benefits. Everything is safe. The price is what is going to limit some of your bigger cities. I wouldn't do London on that lodging budget.

Berlin, Prague, Vienna would all be great. Just choose where you want to go. Don't worry about the news.

I only use the Chase Sapphire Preferred when I travel. 2x points on dining/hotels/airfare/other travel, and more valuable points than other cards in my opinion. No foreign transaction fees.
