Schedule utilities to be shut off at your old place and read the meters (take a picture?) as you leave. Read the meters when you move into your new place.

Go to smile.amazon.com, sign in, go to account and lists (right of center in black band), halfway down “your lists” is Amazon smile charity list. Choose Bogle heads (I haven’t tried this since I’m supporting a different charity) and whenever you log in, the logo in upper left should be Amazon Smile....

OP here. In the mail same day as the original post, I received a detailed explanation from SS. It turns out the deposit is my first check (early this month for some reason) and includes 4 years of waiting to claim plus COL adjustments during that period.

Received strange social security deposit

My first check is supposed to be this month, on the fourth Wednesday. On April 1, the first Wednesday there is a deposit for far more than my calculated benefit by about 40%. Definitely for me, not my husband. Nothing shows on the SS website. Any ideas?

Mystery deposit from NYS in checking account

DD just received a smallish ACH deposit in her checking account, not an even dollar amount. It says ACH New York State DIR DEP. This is not a tax refund. That is accounted for and was labelled ACH New York State TXRFD (or something similar.) Googling suggests the mystery deposit could be unemploymen...

With the billpay system of some banks, when you request a payment to be made, the bank takes the funds from your account, puts it in their account and mails a check on their account to hit on the payment date, typically at least 5 days later. This is especially true if you are paying a small merchan...
