I have VWIAX and VWENX in taxable.
I plan to shift them incrementally to VTMFX.

Re: Car Lease return: how to negotiate down wear/repair costs?
Just providing a data point:
Several years ago, I turned in my Honda FIT EV after 3-yrs lease + 2-yrs extensions (the blue color model).
My local dealer/person, who is handling the lease return, looks over the car for 3 minutes,
basically making sure I return the 2-sets of keys, the portable charger/adapter, the key FOB remote, and that was it.
The tires were original; the wheel rims were fine.

Although past performance is no guarantee of the future, why not go to Morningstar and compare PRWCX and VBIAX, up and down years.
Also, one can establish a small position in VBIAX, to really get involved.
Disclaimer: I own a position in PRWCX, and I am planning to keep it. I am in my upper 50s.

Re: I lost my apple watch in the sofa - will homeowner's insurance pay for it?
Along the lines of using a magnet, a suggestion:
tie a string to a Neodymium ring magnet (available on ebay), and slip it inside the sofa, and try to fish it out
or even use the Neodymium magnet externally along the skin of the sofa, to try to locate it
Caveat: not responsible for damaging AW's internal electronics, by using a strong magnet

Re: Overcontribution in 401k due to employer match
My experience so far:
1. Didn't realize my after-tax contribution + company matching + pre_tax will overshoot the IRS limit until 1 pay period after.
2. My 401k custodian (Fidelity) capped my total 401k pie (pre_tax + post_tax + matching) at IRS limit.
3. My company's over-match (til end of 2020) goes into a excess amount bucket at Fidelity.
4. Supposedly Fidelity will credit back the excess amount to me some time 2021.

Re: Chase $750 for depositing 75K
One quick note (my own experience):
Be sure to keep some kind of balance (~$20) in the Sapphire Checking, if the new money ($75k) is in the You Invest.
I had $0 in my Sapphire Checking for > 60 days, and Chase closed the account.
I had to visit a branch to re-open it (caught just in time).

Re: Upgrade to Brokerage Account with Vanguard
My recent experience (within past month):
Before I had 3 mutual-fund non_retirement accounts (long story), now I just have 1 consolidated brokerage account.
I did have to talk to a representative to combine them (not using the automatic system). I like the consolidated view.
My TOD beneficiaries were transferred smoothly, and now I have TOD beneficiaries on the non-Vanguard funds too.
I also notice if I transfer money from a bank to my settlement fund - I seem to be able to use the amount immediately
(similar to ETrade I believe).

During my 40's, I became my Mom's best friend, through her:
cataract surgery which allow her to see much better than before,
a minor fall with disk compression,
a short bout of shingles, still painful (thanks to her doctor recommended taking shingles vaccine several years back).
Now seeing her youngest granddaughter (my niece) applying to college(s).

Got rid of my already tiny water-thirsty lawn, and replaced with supposedly low-maintenance, drought-tolerant shrubs.
Will see how these plants do next summer.

+1 for nylon.
We use old knee-high nylon stockings, using plastic twists (for plants), to tie to the washing machine drainage tube
We also have a tub strainer.
But in all the years, we never once have the nylon go flying off - the drainage water pressure is not that high.

Yet another angle:
Have you thought about a 2014 Ford Focus EV lease?
I think should be available in Pacific NW for $175/month, 36 months, $4xxx due signing.
It's going to great for short-trips (an ICE car does even get warmed-up).
It's probably roomier than the 2004 model.

My Mom's experience:
We went to my local Chase branch, even though my Mom doesn't have an account there (I have one).
The banker did the Medallion Signature for her for free.
We mailed it to TD, and her account unfroze within 2 weeks.

Re: Are hybrid cars a good idea yet?
Like an earlier poster mentioned,
if most of the driving is local, and have the option of charge at home,
maybe consider a plug-in hybrid, or even a 100% EV.
I drive a EV, as 90% of my driving is local,
and can charge at home during off-peak hours, using time-of-use electricity metering.
And having the ability to charge at work would be an added bonus.

Might also want to browse the Dell outlet site, dell.com/outlet.
There are some really good entry business laptops with Windows 7,
i.e. Dell Latitude E5430, for about $500-$600 (a bit higher than budgeted).
For MS Word, Google docs might work just fine.

age 50 IRA catch-up contribution question
I will be turning age 50 end of this year.
I understand I can make additional $1000 as catch-up IRA contribution, total of $6500 for tax year 2014.
But what about tax year 2013?
Can I contribute an additional $1000 towards my IRA for tax year 2013 before April 15th, 2014?
(I already contributed $5500 last year.)
From IRS website, it sounds do-able.

Thanks in advance!

Browse this one, RCA/Audiovox ANT751R, and read the reviews, unidirectional, about 40 miles range.
Small enough to be place near a window, yet powerful.

I have good HD reception with it, from Sutro Tower.

Re: best value for EV/PEV CA carpool eligible vehicles
Long time forum reader, but first time posting. I leased a Honda Fit EV this past April. Here is my short experience/observation. 1) Definitely consider leasing since EV battery technology should improve in 24-36 months down the road. 2) The highway range is lower than city range, so consider the daily commute miles to see if charging at work is required. I have co-workers whose EVs (ZEVs) need at least 2 hours charging at work since they have a long commute, and even though there are multiple free chargers at work, it can get crowded. I have a short city commute and don't need to charge every day. 3) In CA, the $2500 CVRP rebate is a great bonus, and the HOV sticker another bonus. 4) Definitely get a 6.6kWh charging option if available - e...
