Another house question - Long Island area

Folks. We are approaching retirement, and considering the purchase of a 'for ever' home on Long Island, NY North shore. Presently we are renting a house in Queens. Our kids and extended families are settled in the NY area. We don't want to be 'too far' from NY City, though we don't visit the City th...

As a civil servant, does your city/state offer 'Reasonable Accommodation (RA)' provision? You may be entitled to continue working from home if you have underlying medical conditions, as part of RA. Pls. check with your employer and/or your union, if you are a member

OP Does your mother's State job has provision for "Reasonable Accommodation" ? NY City civil service jobs have such a provision, and they have to legally accommodate an employee based on physical limitation/disability among other factors. You may want to search the State agency site under ...

How to find an OLD W-2 info?

Folks: I worked at City University of NY (CUNY) during 1973 to 1976 (I know it is a long time ago..) as a tutor. Now, how do I find out if those wages are on CUNY's W-2, or from a sub-contractor? I have the amounts from SS website; just need to know who issued the W-2. This will have a bearing on wh...

Apple iPhone 5 on Verizon issue

Folks: I have an (old) Apple iPhone 5 on Verizon network. My phone doesn't ring on incoming or outgoing calls at my house - sometimes. Same problem with text messages - sending and receiving. Once I take it to 1/4 mile away, it seems to work fine. I have tried ALL adjustments that they recommend, - ...

Any particular reason?

I MAY get a better rate than a traditional bank CD. At worst, I get my principal back because of FDIC coverage. I don't plan on redeeming it before maturity - so no penalty.

Re: Market-Linked CD’s – Your opinions?

In the alternative think about this: buy a Treasury zero (or a regular higher yielding CD discounted to face value) and use delta between the discounted price and par value and buy the S&P index. If the index tanks at least you get par on the Treasury at maturity. Not sue if I can do this withi...

Thank you OAG. Based on may 'research' for a conservative investor there is no downside compared to traditional bank CD's which are offering almost nothing in terms of returns. On the upside, Linked CD participate in the market, though 'capped' on the return. Linked CD's are FDIC insured. However, I...

Surprised that a Government job (such as Civil Service at City or State level) isn't listed as as secure. Granted, it may not pay 'well' compared to the private sector, but considering pension, health coverage and other benefits, i can be quite rewarding in the long run.

If not, I will try some of the tools suggested here.
If nothing else, I am going to just forget it and leave it inside, as long as it doesn't interfere with the oil delivery.
