Re: How to choose amount the big 4?

Currently work at EY in Tech Consulting. Lots of opportunities to do really anything - it's a good ole fashion meritocracy. She could join audit, and eventually work into a tech role. I've bounced around between tech, people advisory services and now I'm back in tech. I work with recent college grads as well. If you're good, you can be promoted in 2 years. I know a few that have done it in a year but they lucked out with having a niche skill set and really put in the time and effort. Best of luck to your daughter.

Re: Portland, Oregon Meeting?

Hi Alisa, I'm new to the bogelheads here in Portland and was wondering if you could add me to the mailing list too? I'll go ahead and PM my email address if that is cool. Thanks!

Re: Roth IRA and Student Loans

Questions: 1. I want to open a Roth IRA, and am looking at either Vanguard 500 Index Fund or the 2050 Target Retirement Fund. Any suggestions on my asset allocation/funds? Also, should I keep my TSP or switch to Roth TSP?( Only traditional TSP contributions are matched.) I plan on redeeming shares in the taxable accounts to open the Roth. For your age, you're good with either VFINX (0.17) or VFIFX (0.18); however VFINX has a min initial invest of $3K rather than $1K for VFIFX. I've just opened a Roth IRA and started with the 2050 Target as the AA is roughly 90/10, which for your age, is probably right on. Some people would disagree with me here, as they say you should have your bond allocation match your age, but I lean more towards aggress...

Re: Advice on Student Loans & Portfolio

@g$$ - After looking into my loans further, especially the 6.125%, there is no way to specifically pay down just the 3.9K loan amount i.e. the amount I would pay would go towards both loans. I think the reason behind this is that the 3.9K loan is unsubsidized and the 15K loan is subsidized.

@TSR - Thanks for the bump. I'm familiar with the debt snowball and debt avalanche. I'd prefer the debt avalanche as, from what I've around onlline http://www.consumerismcommentary.com/th ... avalanche/, you end up paying less in interest and debt overall.

Anybody have any other advice?

I've put in a sell order for two of the four mutual funds; looking to move that money into FUSEX.

Re: Advice on Student Loans & Portfolio

@mojave - I see you're a Big Lebowski fan, too. Cheers to that. Regarding the 15K loan, yes, I do need to start hacking away at that. I'm just wondering if I have enough of a emergency fund, and if I should be trying to max-out my 401k and Roth. Thanks for the sage housing advice. The girlfriend and I are very serious, however you do raise some valid points. I suppose he bought when the market it was at it's peak? Sorry to hear, sounds very painful and costly. @TSR - I've read-up on using my Roth as my EF, but figure I will wait until I get closer to April 15th to fully fund it. I do have access to the Fidelity Spartan 500 Fund (FUSEX) with a minimum deposit of 2.5K. The expense is dramatically lower, too; 0.1% compared to the bloated 0.81%....
