Bought one about 6 months ago, definitely negotiate! I continue to use the method talked about on this board often....send emails w/ your required options wanted on the car, and ask for out the door pricing. Then negotiate dealers off each other. I usually go to 6-8 dealerships, often w/in about a 2hr driving radius.
Good luck.

For what it's worth, we've had 3 bad experiences w Room and Board in a row. We are working with them on the current situation, and to this point we don't feel good about the outcome. We won't be buying from them again.
Edited to add: We bought our four kitchen counter height bar stools from Wayfair. Maybe $150 each (IIRC). They are comfortable, have held up well and, and look good. We may have gotten lucky.

Found this method on BH's and have used it twice. I canvassed areas that were drivable in my state and 2 others close by. As mentioned, get out the door pricing, and then negotiate them off each other once you get initial bids. I think a poster above makes a valid point to think of waiting until after tax refund season.safari wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 1:57 pm Contact all local dealers via email, tell them what you're looking for and ask for their best offer. Always ask for the total out the door price to make it easy to compare different offers. This will give you a good idea on what is possible. You can then negotiate further by asking the dealers to beat each other's offers.

To verify, you are selling it back via the contractual terms from the original seller, correct? As opposed to, say, a third party timeshare buy/sell broker?
If so, then I would say $1,500 is a bargain, in the sense that you are fortunate enough to have a sell back clause. There are many (just google it) who are "stuck" with timeshares and no way to get rid of them. Consider yourself fortunate, and move on.

The other topic of conversation for those who have to drive to Denver and park at the airport is catalytic converter theft. Seems to have been a good deal of that recently in airport owned and nearby lots. The hotel I stayed at in Central Park just had a few stolen over night.
I go to Denver a decent bit. I don't worry about auto theft, nor even think of it when we go.

Tried YNAB like you, despised it. I had the same goal as well - Track and understand spending.
I use Tiller now. If you have basic spreadsheet skills (Google sheets or Excel), you are good to go. I connect it to all my accounts (credit and savings), and can tell you my spending to the penny.
There is a little bit of setup once you get going, such as setting up your categories to track. It is quite simple and pretty intuitive.

Re: How do Trustee Services work?
I am not a lawyer.
Re co-trustees, it seems as though that is a solution to be used in exceptional circumstances (which yours may be). For instance, if co-trustees do not agree on a course of action, then there needs to be a process to handle this. Ultimate the beneficiaries suffer, and dispute resolution could take time and cost reference here.
Perhaps using a sole third party, eg a bank. The downside I am aware of is cost (I've heard 1-3%). I would ask your attorney about how to set that up.
My trust has guiding principles for investing, however, ultimately the trustee has discretion. I did not want to try to control that from the grave.

Re: Creating a gmail account for elderly Mom - legal? How to?
Do I create her email address under my gmail address? Will it go to a separate inbox or the same inbox? I thought it better to keep separate inboxes. When I try to create an email account for her it asks for name, I don't feel honest me putting her name but perhaps I can do that because I have DPOA? If you want to keep the email boxes separate, you will want to create a whole new account (this is absolutely what I would do). As you stated, it will ask for a name. When you switch between google accounts, I believe this is the name that will show up, so it is helpful to have something real or at least descriptive. I respect that you are concerned about privacy, but I don't know why you would have any concern about using your mom's name. You ...

Haha. The decision to be made between two great options. Is there really a bad call here? It does not sound like it. Keep that in perspective. If you landed in either of these rentals, would you be miserable, or would you thrive? I bet the latter.
Your gut says go big. I do not like that much space, but I have to tell you, having space for guests to stay, and to have people over, is fantastic. And if you get access to a pool as an avid swimmer, even better.
Where do you spend the vast majority of your time? Sitting alone on your deck gazing at the water (May lend itself toward the smaller place)? Wanting to invite friends over?
Enjoy making a decision with no wrong answer. Take care -

My driveway size is probably a bit larger than yours. When the road is plowed, we get bermed in, so I needed something that could chew through that stuff. I do neighbors' driveways as well on occasion. I just cut through 14 inches of pow this morning. Went with a Honda HSS724at . It is 24" wide, which is plenty for me. They have a 32" wide as well, but I wanted to be able to go around the house and make a path (over dirt/grass/rocks), so slightly narrower was better. I am incredibly pleased with this, it is a beast. Features I wanted: - Electric start (You won't want to go back) - Easy Height Adjustment for Auger - HUGE FEATURE - I can adjust the height of the bucket on the move, great for uneven sidewalk/driveways. Ended up getting a smart trainer and using Zwift. Game changing when it comes to engagement. Can now ride for 90 minutes, and it’s fun. Glad for the change.

For grandkids, how about backpacks, as others have suggested. I use the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L for week long work trips. It is made to be a carry on at 22x12x10. And being a soft sided pack, you can pretty easily slide it under a seat as well and smush it down, should overhead bins be full. Cotopaxi also makes a 28L, which is a bit smaller but still good for a few day trip. I read above about someone suggesting a 55L pack. That is pretty big, I could pack in that for a couple weeks, and it may not fit in the overhead, or you may get asked to check it b/c of size.
Here is the link to Cotopaxi's 35L bag. I should also mention the inside is designed well for access and packing.

Re: Does “decluttering” save money?
We moved recently, and to keep it simple, we gave away 95% of what we owned. We kept our recreation equipment, clothes, and probably a few tools. In essence, we started completely over. I feel that many in life let things build, and instead of owning things, end up getting owned by those things. The clarity about what is important, and focus that a decluttered life can provide, can be achieved with less, not more.

[quoted post and response removed by admin LadyGeek] I simply wondered if you had spoken to your neighbor to see what the situation was before becoming concerned. I also find it helpful to put myself in the shoes of others. In this case, perhaps the crew unrolled the conduit in your neighbor's side yard because unrolling it within the right of way would have obstructed sidewalks and driveways. They may have considered it to be the most courteous and least intrusive way to get their work done, instead of having homeowners angry because they can't pull into their driveway or walk their dog or kids down the sidewalk as a result of having 100ft+ of freshly unspooled plastic conduit laying there. Perhaps your neighbor could have shed some light...

Re: 20 vs 24 inch bike: age & height rule of thumb?
The answer to your question will vary by bike manufacturer/geometry (I get it, rule of thumb). Personally, I've found local bike shops don't accommodate much in the area of kids bikes, YMMV.
We've bought from Trailcraft for our kids. Many kids bikes can be pretty heavy. These are pretty legit, lighter weight. If you look at a model, scroll down and find the "Size" tab, and you will find heights/inseams that each model accommodates.
Depending on inseam, your kiddo may fit something like the Pineridge 24. A 20" bike may prove to last all of a year or so if you go that route.

Re: Do You Encrypt Your Mac Hard Drive??
can i ask why?
my answer is a definite yes. as others have stated, it protects your info from being accessed by an unwanted third party if you lose your laptop, and the mac’s performance is just solid regardless. i actually don't have a compelling reason why you would not do it.
for me, the answer is absolutely use it.

Re: Auto liability question; ~$1 Mil in assets
it will be cheap. and a waste of money i hope. unless you need it. in which case the value to risk will be a moonshot.
point is, if it helps you sleep better for a low nightly rate ($1 to $2 per night), do it. i certainly would in your shoes (and did).
