cost basis -- when redeeming all shares

If I redeem all shares of a mutual fund, does it matter what cost basis I choose?

Re: Savings bonds -- current interest rate & value

Thanks all. Very helpful.

Follow-up question: How do I figure out what interest it earned each year (or whatever frequency makes sense) throughout the life of the bond?

For example, something like this:
1992: 3%
1993: 3.5%
1994 ...
...
2013: 4%

Registration -- site claims bad password is "good"

While registering for a new account, I entered an 8-digit password, and it said “Good.” That implies that it’s good. And yet when I clicked Submit, it said it was too short. I’m thinking that if it’s too short, then it’s not “Good.” Just sayin.

Savings bonds -- current interest rate & value

I have a series EE savings bonds with issue date April 1992 and face value of $1,000. I've looked at the govt sites and simply can't figure out how much interest I'm CURRENTLY earning. I also can't figure out how much it's currently worth. Any ideas?
