Thanks.
I was wondering whether "household discount" is available when 'Wellcare Value Script' is sufficient for one and the second spouse needs a 'Wellcare Medicare Rx Value Plus'?

Re: Taxable Account - VGSH vs Buying Short Term Treasuries

Do both. That way you gain your own experience and do not have to rely on us to make the decision for you. Your experiment will be over in a few months, so you won't have to wait until the end of the world to figure this out and decide for yourself which one you want. In the end, maybe you will want both or neither? For myself, I would not hold any of these in taxable because they would needlessly cost me more in taxes. This is a valid point. I have used T-bills in tax-def and state Munis in taxable. Now I am up to 10% of taxable in my state Munis and 4% of taxable in National munis. (roughly 7 and 3 %, resp., of Total Portfolio). Now I wonder- How much in Munis is too much? Are there guidelines beyond "what you are comfortable with&q...

Re: How can Medicare Part D be this cheap?

Preparing to go from employer PPO into Medicare Supplement.

I have 3 generic drugs and one Tier 3 drug.
The Tier 3 drug is listed on GoodRx for 550, which I suppose is one month supply?........

In Wellcare, for the Tier 3 drug, I would first pay the deductible $545.
After the deductible is paid, I would then get the Tier 3 drug for almost no cost for the rest of the year?

If this is correct, my total cost would be the premium + deductible?
That would mean I would get all drugs for the year only for premium + 545 deductible. ....... Is that possible?
Thanks, all!

My social security statement shows no deductions for Medicare premium or tax withholding. The 2023 payment for the year=2023 benefit. Another way to get current PIA is to multiply the 2020 PIA times the 2021, 2022, and 2023 COLAs. (2020 PIA) * 1.059 * 1.087 * 1.032.

I had done this analysic in 2020 before claiming my benefit at full retirement age. Had entered our individual PIAs at that time.

Now, if I enter my current actual number and spouse's full retirement PIA, which are both higher than the earlier numbers in 2020, the present value of their best strategy comes out substantially LOWER than in 2020!

What might be a good explanation of why this surprise? Thanks.

If you hold VBTLX / BND in a tax-deferred account, you know that you don't need to sell it for 10 or 20 years, even after starting RMDs, don't need income from it, you are not concerned about what reinvestment rates will be down the road -

Considering the current interest rates - Would you now consider replacing the total bond fund with 10- or 20-yr Treasuries?

You and your tax software/accountant need to work it out.

Brokerages may not have all the info needed to say what portion of your capital losses are disallowed.
Good point. I suppose:
1) As Grabiner explains in the other post viewtopic.php?p=3776410#p3776410, Vanguard funds accrue dividends daily, so the rule would not apply to them.
2) One could circumvent the whole issue by selling only the shares held longer than 6 months.

Re: Tax-loss harvest dilemma with municipal bond funds

If I compare tax-equival yields of different products SEC yields, there seems to be hardly any different.

The tax-equivalent yield based on my original cost basis, is lower than the current SEC yields of BND or Treasuries. The original shares will continue to show lower yield based on the original cost basis. Reinvested dividends will perform almost similarly in alternative funds.

If I TLH and reinvest into BND or Treasuires, I will be reinvesting a lower amount than the original cost. I dont see why that would be better since the TEY of SEC yields are similar. TLH into another bond fund does not seem to make sense .......unless TLH is the main purpose.

Am I missing anything?

The only option would be to disconnect the account completely? In my area, Comcast is the only provider; AT&T provdes through (old) telephone lines/DSL. I dont know how well the DSL service works. :-(

Does anyone use iPhone connected to TV for Internet access and streaming services? I bought a Apple live wire connector for iPhone that connects to my smart TV. (Casting is not stable.)

Well, part of the difference comes from the fact that there are 365 days in a year. Six month T-bills are 26-week instruments. Furthermore, you probably should adjust yield to reflect the effect of compounding on the phantom interest. I found the definitions of the terms like "coupon equivalent" and "Bank discount rate". Now it all makes sense. The bank discount rate is the interest rate investors earn on short-term money-market instruments like commercial paper and Treasury bills. You should research how bonds are priced and return income in rising and lowering interest rate regimes. This fund has an SEC Yield of 4.35% right now. That is because, much of the return is showing up in price increases for the underlying bonds as they mature. It is actually returning a very competitive yield for the duration of the fund. I was disappointed by that change too. I called and made a request to reimplement the previous functionality. Please do so by chat or phone. Hopefully they will get it.

Neither Fidelity nor Interactive Brokers seems to have that breakdown, so I don't see any point moving to them.

I had also called and told them about my disappointment. The representative explained that they are also trying to hold in the TD Ameritrade clients, which is taking longer.

They should’ve kept the previous functionality live until they were ready to switch! :annoyed

Re: Schwab Portfolio Performance page

I use Quicken and Excel (and also have Schwab but don’t use that feature). Excel is the most flexible and I have it setup to handle mutual funds that don’t have stock tickers and a pension - neither of which seem to work with the online portfolio tools I have tried. I do two copy and pastes from Quicken into Excel and I have my full portfolio summarized in a way that makes sense to me and my spouse. I also have an excel tmplate for manual entires of legacy stocks and newer index funds. Mutual Funds and ETFs have some mix of asset classes and secotrs. So my excel does not show me the true asset class and sector allocation in the total portfolio. Schwab feature used to do that somehow, and gave me results that were not identical to my excel.

Schwab Portfolio Performance page

Schwab is overhauling this feature. No idea when I will get access to full analytics.
Is there a better tool where I could easily upload numerous positions (legacy stocks and new index funds) to obtain asset class and sector allocations, etc.?

Re: Fixed income - New contributions in current environment

How about VGSH?
YTM looks good, short rates are higher. Why not put a good chunk for 2-3 years in VGSH?

For Short-term funds I’m buying three and six months Tbills in my taxable account. The three month is currently yielding 3.05% and six month 3.53%.

Here’s a good website that gives you yields of treasury securities

Thanks! I have not understood TIPS well. When I reviewed them a few years ago, they had not looked an attractive option; but perhaps I need to understand them better.
