Re: I bought a stock today - Redfin (RDFN)

In Planet Money's indicator they have a short interview with Glenn Kelman. https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2018/01/26/581131310/amazon-ipos-and-the-queen-of-the-demonweb-pits I just finished listening to the podcast and came to the forum to find this. Hearing about Redfin from two sides at the sa...

Re: Rick Steves - France (or some other tour company)

+1 for diy

I have found that the part I remember most fondly about most of my trips is when something unplanned happened.
Even last year when the bus to the airport "forgot" to pick me up in Karlsruhe, the $100 taxi ride was quite an experience going well over 100 mph.

The actual site is http://www.tripadvisor.com/ but http://www.tripadvisEr.com/ will happily redirect you there. In this forum I can see where you got the "adviser" from.

Re: Going Offroad ["play money" investing]

The only way I play with my portfolio is to use each new contribution to sell slightly in-the-money put options for the index funds I am going to buy anyway.
This way I get some fun wondering whether I will be assigned.

Re: Wiki suggestion - Nonresident Aliens

Thank you, LadyGeek, for giving me access to the wiki.

This is a very rough attempt at a page based on what we talked here: http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/User:Lar ... ent_aliens

What do you think?

Re: Wiki suggestion - Nonresident Aliens

I should point out that NRA is a rather broad group containing well over 6 billion people, most of whom are blithely unaware that the IRS exists, let alone that the IRS considers them NRA. Most of the contributions to a NRA article will probably be from people with some sort of tie to the US. It wo...

Re: Wiki suggestion - Nonresident Aliens

If one is a US non-resident alien I should think that person might be especially interested in the investing implications of the fact, and share what they have found out and what specific questions remain. This is Web 2.0 , after all. PJW I think a new wiki entry US investing for nonresident aliens...

Re: Wiki suggestion - Nonresident Aliens

The wiki's content depends on the interest and experience of the members. Can you supply some examples of what you are looking for? I am specifically interested in an NRA having a brokerage account in the US. It makes sense for us from somewhat economically unstable countries to reduce our risks ha...

Wiki suggestion - Nonresident Aliens

This site seems to be quite US centric but considering there is already a EU Investing page in the wiki, I think there might be some interest for a generic nonresident alien investment wiki entry. Even though many issues are country specific there are many things all NRA's have in common. What do yo...

I just monkey around with my Google spreadsheet, which grows more and more baroque by the day.
It satisfies my need for tinkering without doing any actual damage to my investments.

Re: What Book Are You Currently Reading? Part V

I read all of Adams' books in my early twenties and although they were the funniest books I have ever read, they also left me with a very sad aftertaste. It was after reading them that I was left pondering the futility of life. A couple of decades later these books still have a special place in my h...

Re: Controlling emotions

I have a neat Google spreadsheet in which I calculate the internal return rate of my whole investment since I began.

Based on that I project the date in which I will reach a certain value at the current rate. That future date seldom moves more than a couple of months.
