Thanks Brad for the monthly reports. I enjoy reading them.
For those asking about the newsletter, I am a long term subscribers as I am here and a few other places. I do not follow suggestions from anyone. The newsletter forum is very good. I suggest you give it a trial for a year and in fact might be able to cancel after a month or two with a refund. AAII also has a good internet site.

I would think anyone smart enough to amass north of $1million would not need an advisor. Unless the $$$ were inherated or obtained in a similar way.

I graduated HS in 1959. As seniors we took a class called 'Senior Problems'. Covered marriage and such topics. No finance. But there were no credit cards, cheap mutual funds, (in fact, few mutual funds), EF Hutton charging 2% each direction for stock trades. Stores did have Lay Away plans in lieu of credit cards.
Little hard to teach a class in Long Term investing and also use an example when the class is only one semester long. They sure could teach a lot about mortages and such though.
Oh yes, our computers were giant Slide rules hanging on the wall above the black board.

There is a COSTCO and a SAM'S Club almost next door to each other in my neighborhood. Parking is always a problem at COSTCO so I go to SAMS. 90% of the products are the same, though brand names may change. COSTCO is probably the better store. We also have HD and LOWES almost next door to each other in the same general complex area.

I believe the dealer would also use the "code scan" to diagnose the problem. So getting the scan elsewhere should be just fine. You can probably put the resulting code, from the scan, into Google and get an English version of what the numbers mean.

Wellington fund is one of the best funds out there. It is good one stop shopping for a tax deferred account . The expense ratio is very similar to that of an index fund. Managers change from time to time but the performance continues on. I have owned this fund for many years.(decades). In the case of Wellington active management is an advantage.

BRK does not pay a dividend and is therefore tax efficient in a taxable account; if you do not sell it. Depends on why you might be holding it. I have owned BRK.b since the mid 1990's.

Re: Vanguard Variable Annuity - Need advice
I have a Vanguard Variable Annuity. Did a 1035 exchange into it many years ago when it first became available. The Balanced Fund is a direct clone of the Wellington fund and is a very good choice. In my case I do not need to annutize till I reach age 90. Till then I can do just as you say: withdraw funds as I like on a random or scheduled basis. Generally speaking the variable annuity acts just like a traditional IRA in terms of withdrawl and taxes. The funds never become part of an insurance company till anutized so the soundnesss of the associated insurance company is not an issue. I will probably never cash my annuity and keep it as supplementry to my LTC policy.
