Re: Favorite Horror Books

You may want to check out some of the works of H.P. Lovecraft. You should be able to find a volume of his collected works fairly cheaply. Some of my favorite stories are:

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
The Colour Out of Space
At the Mountains of Madness

Re: What kind of sunglasses?

While I have a pair of Ray-Bans that I keep in my car (received as a gift), my main go-to for sunglasses are made by Goodr . They're designed/marketed as running sunglasses (they're lightweight and don't slip or bounce) but ultimately, they're just simple and relatively inexpensive (around $25) pol...

Re: Lawnmower recommendation

We decided to start doing our own yard this year (around .5 acres) and I purchased a Honda HRN216 self propelled mower from Home Depot for around $400. So far very pleased, plenty of power and starts on the first crank every time. My only complaint is the very small bag attachment (we bag in the bac...

Re: Are your personal expenses down during stay home and shelter?

Expenses are down --

- Daycare closed
- Dining out drastically reduced
- Non-essential purchases limited
- Summer travel plans cancelled
-Children's extra-curricular activities cancelled

However, DW was laid off last week so income is down much more :?

Re: How will banks profit from making 30 year fixed rate mortgages?

Another factor is that very few people actually stay in the same house for 30 years.

Re: Bathroom remodel -10K- Is it expensive?

We just had to tear out the walk in tile shower in our master bath down to the studs due to leaking and completely redo it using the Schluter system. Total cost was around 13k (including new shower door) and it took about 2 weeks.

Re: The annual "Boglehead considering a country club" thread

I say do it. We joined our local CC about 3 years ago (kids were 4 and 2 at the time) mainly for the pool and it has been absolutely worth it. We were still relatively new to the area when we joined and it has been a great way to meet people and make friends. Its really enjoyable in the summers to b...

Where the Red Fern Grows

The Call of the Wild

Watership Down

The Great Brain Series (mentioned above)

The Hobbit

*EDIT -- Too early in the AM, did not see NON-Fiction. Oh well, still some good books above ;)

Re: Dependent Care Reimbursement Account

Based on my own experience, 1. The money is deducted from your paycheck every pay period and held by your employer's benefits administrator (similar to a flexible spending account, although the money is only available as its deducted, not all up front) 2. You can obtain reimbursement from the plan a...

Re: Vanguard charged me $140 in service fees

Did they refund the charges? They refused. To be honest, it wasn't worth my time to spend much effort on this. I wondered if others had the same problems though. Apparently yes. I had the exact same experience this week. Found out I had been charged $40.00 on two small tIRA accounts even though I a...

Re: Buying a Vehicle the Old Fashioned Way

Sounds like you got a good deal, but not everyone has a local dealer who will price match. When I purchased a new Odyssey last year my local guy was about $3k higher than an offer I had from a dealer a few hours away.

401k Dropping PTTRX - Need Help Selecting Replacement

I have recently been notified that my company's 401K is dropping the Pimco Total Return Fund (PTTRX), where I currently have all of my bond holdings, and is replacing it with the Prudential Total Return Bond Fund Class Q (PTRQX). I'll confess that I initially chose the Total Return Fund without much...

Requesting Help with 401k Options

Greeting Bogleheads! My 401k offers the following funds through Fidelity. I would like to get as close as possible to a 3 fund portfolio, but don't know where to start other than using FUSVX for for most (all?) of my US equity. Any help regarding what I should do for bonds and international equity w...
