Re: Titling rollover IRA
Thanks for letting me know that they title it that way automatically and for the tip that the title alone may not be sufficient. I'm not overly concerned about it, but figure I might as well keep assets as safe as possible. It'll be my only rollover IRA and I won't be able to contribute, retired las...

Titling rollover IRA
I am planning to rollover from a 457 plan to an IRA at Vanguard. In the wiki, under "asset protection", there is this suggestion: According to some attorneys with expertise in ERISA and pension topics, when rolling over assets from an ERISA plan into an IRA, you should title the IRA as such and not ...

Re: Buy I-Bonds before May 1 or After?
It's not worth over analyzing, but... :) The "TIPS Watch" link says: "The I Bond’s six-month variable rate will fall from 2.48% to 2.22% on May 1". The potential 0.26% extra for 6 months will be offset in about 16 months if there is 0.1% fixed rate increase. A 0.1% increase would be about $200 extra...

That is the way I choose to define a liability. Define it however you wish, but you are comparing owning the home you live in to owning a rental property as if you can not do both. I think you are confusing the house one lives in (a liability), and the house you rent out (an asset). How is the house I live in a liability? The AGI limit increases for 2018, but the value will be a maximum of $1400 for joint and $700 individual.
For single, AGI limit for 50% credit is $19,000, reduce that by std deduction of $12,000, leaves $7000 taxable. Since that's completely in the 10% bracket, taxes would be $700.
