Nice! Glad it worked for you. I also prepaid and requested a $5k bond with my return through Form 8888, like I've done the past two prior years. E-filed on 2/14. Received a form 5071C on 3/14 requesting info to verify my identity. Key information on my returns since 2020 have been just about the same, with I Bond requests starting in 2021. The only difference this year is I switched direct deposit banks for the small residual refund after the I Bond amount. I guess that difference triggered the 5071C. Now I get to wait 9 more weeks (so they say) to receive my refund, while my $5k earns -0- stuck in limbo. And who knows if the bond will be issued before the next fixed rate change. Does your bank offer debit card controls, such as limiting the maximum (non-ATM) transaction to 1¢? Or ATM-only cards? I've never carried a debit card and never will. Left a local.bank after 20 years when they discontinued ATM-only cards and forced replaced them.with debit cards.

Interest will be exempt from state tax if you hold it in a taxable account. But it may make your tax return very complex. Holding in a Traditional IRA, everything will be taxable - including state tax - upon withdrawal. Holding in a Roth then none will be taxable.

If you're allowed to do the 60-day redeposit into the 401(k), great! Be aware, however, you will still get a 1099-R reflecting the original withdrawal. Don't panic! Your tax prep software should ask questions which will flag the withdrawal as non-taxable and without penalty.

You should have a 60 day window to redeposit it back without any consequences. At least that's the rule for IRAs. Check with your 401(k) provider.
Oh, and you can only do the 60-day redeposit thing once every 365 days, so be careful next time!

I'm not answering your question directly but there is something similar that can be done with Linux and a non-persistent USB boot. I've switched away from Windows because of telemetry and always being forced to upgrade machines to match new Windows requirements. I use MxLinux on my desktop and the updates are a dream compared to the clunky Windows updates. Then on my laptop I use Linux Mint USB boot with my hard drive shut down. I do fresh reboot on a Linux machine(distrowatch.com)using Linux Mint with a live USB boot. The USB is made to be non-persistent so no malware can write on it. So, you can immediately go do banking or wherever you need the most security and then shut down and reboot and as nothing can be written to the USB so a sta...

Re: When do electric cars stop making sense?
If you are planning to hold the car for > 10 years the hybrid warranty is out! Are you 100% sure you can get a replacement battery pack at an affordable cost? Maybe the battery technology has change? Gas will be always there. Maybe, we have an EV and an ICE. The Toyota blew and oil house and killed the engine. It was a little over $10k for a rebuilt engine with install. Our Leaf could have had a new pack for $6k at one time but after 7 years and 80k miles it still was holding 12 of 12 bars of charging so I will never know. There are also non-Nissan shops that were offered to replace with a bigger battery pack. I guess I will find out in about 6 years when our Leaf gets to 100k. Might be driving a BYD next 8-) At the OPs electric rates, it ...

I've been considering concierge for some time now. I almost signed up with a local concierge practice with great reviews, except I learned that they are a hybrid practice. The reviews from the non-concierge patients were horrific. Months to get an appointment, appointments cancelled with little notice, never a live person answering the phone, long, long waits to be seen, rarely a timely call-back just to make an appointment! The medical care of the "regular folks" was clearly suffering at the expense of the concierge patients. I could not in good conscience be a part of that practice and have someone else's care be substandard as a result of mine.

First one's resume is processed by the HR computer systems, generating a multitude of hashtags based on keywords or phrases in the resume. Then the resume is scored against the criteria of the job. Only high-scoring resumes are read by the "people who hire people." So, yes, resumes are critical.

If you purchase replacement shares within the window, there's a wash sale. It does matter which money you use.
Capital losses can't offset dividends, so it looks like you've extended your annual $3k loss write-off for almost 9 more years. Unless, of course, you have unrealized gains you can trigger. (No wash sale waiting period for gains.)

Although I'm sure I'll be in the minority, yes, absolutely file an amendment. The IRS will kick-out your return when they reconcile all the 1099s vs. what you reported. There's a reason why 1099s such as yours are reported on your 1040 and then noted as "Rollover" with taxable amount equal zero. I would suggest, however, to wait until your original return has been processed. You can check this by logging into your account at irs.gov.

Don't sell anything valuable on eBay. Their rules greatly favor the buyer, even the fraudulent ones. You could sell the watch for $1000, they complain to eBay that you sent them a cheap Timex. Then eBay forces you to make a refund and they send you back a cheap Timex and keep your expensive watch.Rodethe600 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 8:01 pmAt the risk of sounding naive, can you put stuff on eBay without a price? In a taxable (non-IRA) account, here's when taxable events occur: (1) when a fund pays dividends, and (2) when you sell investments for a gain. It doesn't matter what you do with the money in either case, leave it, remove it, reinvest it. No difference.
