Cable Line between two poles in backyard is sagging after storm

Hello,
In my backyard, I have two telephone poles, one where power comes from, the other to support it. The one that supports the line is due to the cable going to neighbors house (It is their cable line).

The line between the two poles in my yard is low enough where I can physically reach it. I'm just wondering what is the proper and easiest way to have this fixed?

Nothing seems to be wrong, no frayed/exposed wires in the cable line. Just out of curiosity, how does an electrician tighten the sag to where it is safe?

Thanks

Re: Form 8606, a couple questions (Section 3, Distributions) ROTH Ira

Is that a good way to check the basis? Yes and no. If all you do is ordinary contributions, it would all be basis. If you do conversions into your Roth, it would not all be basis until the 5 year conversion clock has ticked. Or if you did a rollover from Roth 401k, some of that would be basis and some would go into earnings. I might just do the 2018 form as soon as this 2017 form gets accepted and try to contact the IRS to explain. Wishful thinking getting a hold of someone to talk to...... I don't think you need to explain. The IRS is accustomed to getting that form all the time. They will figure it out. If they don't, you'll get another bill in a year and can just send the form in again at that time. I have never done a conversion or rol...

Yes. Go ahead and fill it out while you still have all the information in front of you. I would send it in alone to the place that gets your tax returns. Keep a copy in case you get a similar bill a year from now.

Send the 2017 form back to the address on your letter along with whatever paperwork they require.
Gotcha, I will for sure keep a copy and keep them separate. I just hope the way I tried to calculate my basis is right on the money. I know each time I took out a distribution (which was a few times), I was within before hitting any of my earnings. Thank you!

Re: Form 8606, a couple questions (Section 3, Distributions) ROTH Ira

Thank you for the reply. Since I only did distributions in 2017 (never went over what I contributed), I didn't realize I had to fill out a form for this. I suppose I was uneducated about this and the one time I talked to the IRS a week or so ago, the person told me if I filled out part 3 of the 8606 with the distributions and my total contributions it will wipe out the bill I received from the IRS recently. I feel like a fool about it. I will fill out my information on the 2017 8606 form. Since I only had a Roth with Vanguard, I was able to go through all my contributions fairly easy. So, lets say I took out 5k in Roth distributions in 2017 and contributed 15k into my Roth up until that point, would it look like this? Line 19: 5k Line 20: 0...

Form 8606, a couple questions (Section 3, Distributions) ROTH Ira

Hello, I have never had to fill this out before, but in 2017 I have taken out Distributions (lets say 10k), but at that time I contributed 20k of my own money. I have never taken out any earnings. I am under 59.5 years old and had my Roth IRA for 4-5 years. I keep reading about the 5 year rule, but I believe that only comes into play if I took out earnings on top of what I contributed if I am correct. I didn't use the Distributions for buying a first time home, distasters, or rollers/conversions. I do not have a Traditional IRA or anything else than a Roth IRA and 401k. I've tried 10 times to call the IRS. Usually I have to wait over an hour to talk to someone, and every time either the person hung up on me, or would put me on hold for anot...

Do not let the dealer know you plan to pay cash. This way they will drop the price more. They want you to have a loan from them. Absolutely. No discussion of financing (or not financing) until price is nailed down. Also, don't discuss trading in the old car until the end. Also this. If they think you will need a large loan the price drops instantly. Vice Versa. How to make him think so without lying? I mean, I am interested in that idea, but at the same time, I don't want to lie to someone to save money. How to play that game in an ethical way? Dealers are not saints. They hold back a lot of information on how low they can really go. You can choose to be 100% straight up with them if you want. I told them I might need a loan and that's it....

Re: The case for 100% equities

If you look at my post history you will see numerous times I advocate for 100% equities, which has provoked many counter-arguments. These are the lines of rationale I found least convincing. 1. Disbelief you can handle the risk. These arguments start off by simply denying the premise--that you can tolerate the risk. No you cannot handle the risk, and the ups and downs are simply too much. You will fold and you will fail. These arguments I believe usually involve some degree of personal projection onto you. 2. Habit. a bond mix is good for the purpose of getting into the habit of having bonds in your portfolio. This is a kind of circular reasoning in itself, and will require a more charitable interpretation to rehabilitate. Needless to say,...

Every situation is different and I am guessing it can be uncomfortable at times. With unique items, I try to be honest right off the jump. Ask them why they are selling it. Maybe ask why they collected it in the first place. Share your story on why you want it.

Try to determine if the seller is selling due to needing money, no longer interested in the item(s), etc.

Sometimes people just get tired of looking at stuff they once had a passion for.

Email every dealership within range about the exact car I want for an out the door price. 15 to 20 places. Best price is where I go and NEVER tell them you plan to pay in full or a large amount. They will drop it more if you need a big loan.

Re: lawn care cost

Other than my Newspaper Route at 11, quit a year later to mow lawns. I would hand out a lot of flyers and managed to have 4 customers. This was about 22 years ago and I would charge them $20 for mowing, weed wacking, and edging. If they wanted it bagged Id charge an extra 5 to rake it/bag it.

My parents never paid me to mow our lawn. I did get to use our lawn mower to cut lawns and would walk it to wherever the customers house was. To me this was easy money especially so young.

As long as I am able to mow my lawn I will never hire a service. Maybe the only way was if I somehow became extremely wealthy. I don't enjoy it one bit, but its exercise and less spending. Plus its my lawn so I would care about the job more.

I don't regret this even a little. When I started my career, I basically bet on myself being successful, and I knew that I was going to make hay in my 30s. Even with an aggressive rate of return assumption, the money I didn't save in my 202s would be immaterial to me now. No regrets at all. Sounds a little like me. I've never had one issue with it until very recently where I've noticed a few small issues that seemed like transmission - however, the trans shop could not find a problem. On any rate, I decided I want to look for another vehicle and am looking at either a 2015 or 2016 certified used Accord, or *maybe* a new one or new Toyota Camry. I'm looking at about $8-10,000 more new versus a 3 year old model with 20-50,000 miles. Leaning certified used though. Amazing how well the Camry and Accord hold in value used. Re: Best Car Values

I bought a 2012 Mazda3 I touring, planning to have it for 10 to 12 years until I buy another one.

Used cars are cheaper, but I'm a person who has no trust in previous owners.

Re: "Never time the market" vs. lump sum investment

If you can handle bigger swings say 100% in S&P you might want to do that depending on age. I am in my mid 30s and I think when I hit 40 I will start putting Bonds in my AA.....maybe.

Re: Boeing-time to buy?

After realizing the risk vs reward I did pull out 45% of 55% that I held in my AA. I got out at 440 and glad I did. 10% is still in Boeing Stock, but since I'm 34, I need to not be super risky and gamble.

Re: When does the power of compounding interest really kick in?

Agreed. Just like 100k to 200k is doubling. 2 to 3 is 1.5, etc.

That's why it's faster as you keep going hopefully if it keeps growing.
