Re: Stable Value Funds in Portfolio
Stable Value funds are typically bonds with an insurance wrapper, and act like cash with a near 3% return (in my plan). I'm actually blown away that you're getting "near 3% returns" with your stable value fund. We recently solicited offers for stable value funds for our DC plan and they b...

Re: I've had it with USAA insurance
I got a quote online with Geico,as I was not satisfied with my carrier. Very simple. Excellent Prices. Switch was easy. (Not Affiliated) :happy +1 GEICO tried to raise my premium at renewal until I told them I'd switch back to USAA, then after a brief hold on the phone, my rates stayed the same. :m...

Re: Disappointed with Vanguard account
I can "reallocate" out of a number of different funds and into a number of different funds as a percentage, or a dollar amount, with a non-Vanguard account. With Vanguard I found it easiest to just sell one day and buy the next, unless I wanted to just buy or sell one fund. I sure would li...

Re: Any Bogleheads Not Staying the Course
I am just curious. Are there any Bogleheads that are not staying the course as far as asset allocation when it comes to bonds. Are any of you holding more stocks then you are comfortable with due to the simple fact that bonds are just going to do so poorly going forward. Or, are you just dealing wi...

Re: Target Date 2015- Low-credit-quality bonds?
The 2010 fund doesn't have low quality bonds according to Vanguard's portfolio analyses, just the 2015 fund. I'm sure it is just a glitch.rkhusky wrote:Perhaps the Vanguard analyzer considers TIPS to be low quality. Only TR 2010 and 2015 have TIPS and they are about 20% of the bonds.

Re: Target Date 2025- Low-credit-quality bonds?
It sure is odd that the 2010 and 2020 don't have the same issue. Yes it is. Give them a call about your concerns. I'm not trying to be dismissive; it's just a topic that I find interesting because the DW's money is in the fund. Here's one discussion http://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2...

Re: Target Date 2025- Low-credit-quality bonds?
The DW's portfolio is entirely in Target Date 2015. I get the "low quality" message every time I look at the investments. Fortunately, DW never looks at her portfolio so we never have the discussion on "why did I put her in such a risky fund with such questionable bond holdings."...

Re: Target Date 2025- Low-credit-quality bonds?
Interesting... weird... I can't replicate it... I tried a "hypothetical" allocation of 100% VTTVX in Portfolio Tester and it's only showing me 1.2% "low credit quality." I was wondering if it is something to do with the international bond fund but of course that would be similar...

Target Date 2015- Low-credit-quality bonds?
I ran a portfolio analysis using Vanguard Portfolio Watch and was surprised when I reviewed the "bond analysis" tab and had a caution on the credit quality on my bond holdings. My Vanguard holdings include the 2025 fund, Wellesley, Wellington, and the Energy fund. Here is the analysis: Cre...

Re: First Speeding Ticket: What Would You Do?
Have you considered going to court to see what happens to others on these types of cases prior to making a decision on your ticket? It would cost you a vacation day but could provide some insight. FWIW, I'm a retired from law enforcement (Florida) and rarely saw a radar citation lost in court. I los...

Probably the best home defense firearm is a 12-gauge pump shotgun loaded with "00" buckshot. If you cannot handle such a powerful firearm a 20-gauge would be my second choice.
