Re: Ally Banking 1% extra back up to $1,000 on new money deposited

My wife separately asked about putting in more money and each getting 1% bonuses. Answer was word for word same as mine, cut and pasted. So I called and asked. She had to put me on hold (surprising, figure they would have received this question already). My wife also emailed back, because we want a...

Re: Ally Banking 1% extra back up to $1,000 on new money deposited

Hmmmmm. Transferred 150K to my Ally Online Savings on 10/12. Didn't know about the offer, before the transfer, so didn't sign up. Hmmmm. What to do? Would think about keeping 100K there until January for the extra $1000. UPDATE: Chatted with Ally. Said I'm eligible If I sign up even though the mone...

A Google Voice number would be a good fit for your situation. Gives you a second phone number without needing another phone.

Re: Fixing Slow Drains

Lots of baking soda and then pour some white vinegar down the drain. Let it fizz and foam for a minute, then turn the water on hot as it will go and let it run. Repeat if drain still slow. Do this once a month as preventative maintenance.

Re: Tire Puncture - plug from outside or patch and plug from inside

Almost no repair shop will plug a tire anymore. They will only patch from the inside for safety reasons, as a plug has the potential to work its way out. A patch job will probably cost you $15 to 20. That being said, I have plugged many tires over the years and not had a problem with any of them. I ...

Re: Price for brakes and rotors?

RockAuto. For comparison I just did brakes on my 4Runner for $65 including shipping. And these weren't the cheapest brakes I could have purchased. New rotors would have cost about $70 more but they didn't need to be changed. Youtube DIY videos are your friend. If you don't want to do it yourself, pu...

I have the Niagara shower heads and have been satisfied using them for about 15 years. You can adjust the water pattern and it also has a massage setting which is nice.

Re: advice regarding hard to find HVAC freon leak

Had a new Carrier unit put in about two years ago. It did not seem to be running quite right so I called the same company who installed it for an inspection. Service tech found the refrigerant was quite low. The service tech went into my attic where the air handler is located and used a small electr...

Re: Heat Pump

Agree with others...I live in Georgia and a heat pump is how houses are cooled here (as well as heat them in the winter). Heat pump works great for air conditioning, but it would not be adequate to heat in the winter in DC, as it barely does the job in GA.

Re: car maintenance ... how to save

There are a lot of Honda forums and youtube videos with Do-It-Yourself instructions, if you have the time and desire to tackle some of these yourself. Like others have said, I believe your car has a timing chain, not a timing belt. The timing chain does not need to be replaced. I would not do the wa...

Re: deciding whether to buy a Trek FX 7.2 hybrid bicycle

I purchased a Trek PDX a few years ago and love it. It looks like it is very similar to the bike you are considering. I would recommend adding bar ends so you can vary your hand/wrist position. http://www.trekbikes.com/powerreviews/powerreviews/product-reviews/Urban/PDX/Trek/p/2011_1358000-PDX.html

Many trusts give the trustee complete authority to simply distribute the assets and terminate the trust (although it may be that this is not an option while ...

I purchased Ric-E Trusts for my three children when they were born. They are now 12, 4 and 4. This was before I learned about Boglehead investing principles. Thought I was doing a good thing for my kids' futures. Now I see that I am helping Ric Edelman and his kids get richer instead of my own. I wo...
