To prevent activation of the pro rata rule, you just need to have zero in trad Ira as of dec 31. Money in 401k or 403b do not matter. Form 8606 is only for Ira, not employer plans.

All companies make mistakes. What makes a company good is how they handle them. Double checking that a rollover went to the correct place is a prudent course of action for any account transfer.

Missing the forest for the trees. You were paying MUCH more than the 40 dollars a year, overall you are saving a ton by dumping pas. Gradually add to the Wellington position or do it all at once or don’t do anything. Small potatoes in the scheme of things.

If you are in a litigious profession, the is the way to go. You can't put a beneficiary on either type of account at vanguard. Everyone should have a will.

If you elect to roll it all to a Roth, you might want to pay estimated taxes to avoid any irs penalties. The pro rata rule applies to money in an Ira as of dec 31.
The amount you need to earn to open a solo 401k is minimal per my nderstanding.

Vanguard is a big proponent of international, including intl bonds. That has not worked for a few years, but should eventually revert. The only thing that really predicts performance going forward is er, so switching to vanguard seems prudent.

To tlh total bond, I would use int term bond index. Slicing and dicing bond funds isn’t my cup of tea, but you could consider a cd ladder for a portion of your fixed income.

Fidelity makes it somewhat difficult to find their low cost target retirement funds. Once you know how to look for them it is not difficult, but it takes some persistence.

As a general rule of thumb, contribute in the following order
1. 401k to the match
2. Roth IRA
3. Max 401k if er less than 1.7
4. Taxable investing.
If you have access to hsa, consider using it as stealth IRA at 2a.

The standard advice is to keep money needed within 5 years is to have it in mm or CDs. Selling at WF where they have the cost basis, then moving the cash seems the most prudent to me.

If the accounts are all the same (taxable, Ira, Roth IRA) there should be no problem consolidating them. Certainly calling vanguard is one way to do it.
