OP is using Schwab Intelligent Portfolios service, which is no-fee robo advisor with human advisor oversight. OP pays no fee. OP could switch to regular brokerage account and self-manage since he says he is basically doing that anyways.

One other point: I am proud of my federal work and the mission of my Agency. We did excellent work in public service. Whatever the delta was between private sector and public, I feel content in knowing that we made a positive difference. Sometimes it's not all about the money. :)

It's not a forever choice. I'd use Fido or Schwab for now, and at some point when VG gets on top of their customer service and IT issues, consider moving it over. If you have a local Fido or Schwab office, that's a plus.
