Re: Which City to spend 4-6 weeks?

From the cities i've visited or lived in for 1+ weeks, here's my rankings... i tend to focus on food/culture/outdoors (somewhat in that order). Obviously your location within the city will have a big impact on your experience - being walking distance to the center really helps (e.g, avoid the suburb...

Re: Open-ended question about vacationing in Yosemite or a different national park

Another vote for post-august... A good addition would be to explore the east side of the Sierra's - tuolumne meadows and tioga pass (inside the park) through to Mono Lake, Bodie (ghost town), to Mammoth Lakes (Reds Meadow) and June Lakes. Personally i wouldn't go south of Mammoth Lakes. Of course yo...

Re: Employee IPO windfall - mid 7 figures

I went through this a few years ago - along with friends at work - and saw every possible way of managing this... those that seemed to come out the worst were the ones who didn't have a long term plan or goal, other than "wanting more" e.g. "why sell now if it looks like going up another 30%". For m...

Re: Wireless phone use in Italy

From my personal experiences traveling in Europe for 2+ months, switching to TMobile was the simplest move. Could still get US calls for work on the same number, wifi calls were free, and data was free (although slow). I think non-wifi calls were 20c per minute which was very reasonable i thought. I...

Buying Relative Out Of Shared Property

Hi Everyone - want to make sure I've got everything covered when going through a private buy-out of a shared (50-50) condo with a relative. Of course it's very important to keep family relationships intact so want to keep this as simple as possible... Both of us want to purchase the property outrigh...

Re: To MBA or not MBA?

This stands out in the OP: "It's important to me to get an MBA part-time so I can continue to earn a salary". What makes you say that? I have had several of my employees in their late 20s/early 30s ask for my advice on the general MBA topic. I think there are 2 answers: 1) Do your MBA if you need ad...

Re: help me understand new car buying

Dealers hate ordering the car because it takes 3+ months before the factory makes it during which time customers may back out of the purchase with no penalty (you don't pay until you take delivery). This leaves the dealer with a car to sell that may not be a popular color or have attractive options ...

bond "correction" & bond fund confusion

All the talk about the coming bond 'crash' has me confused relative to my specific bond investments. I understand that in the case of rising interest rates, holding an individual bond through it's duration means that over its life-time all will be fine (assuming no outright default). However, i'm le...

Asset Allocation & Portfolio review for a new convert

Hi everyone - it's taken me about a year to realize that I will gain 10+ hours a week and similar or likely higher returns :-) by switching from an active stock strategy to a passive low-cost index & rebalancing strategy. Here's my proposed plan (i expect it to take me 3 months to reorganize from my...
