Re: Intuit's Mint App Shutting Down...Replacement Recommendations?

I don't put my property address as I don't want to know my zillow property value to go up or down. our house is not an investment and I don't want to be tempted to buy/sell.
I just manually put a cash value for my property.

Re: Intuit's Mint App Shutting Down...Replacement Recommendations?

I switched from mint to credit karma. I already had a credit karma for a few years.

It's not that bad. The entire view can be seen at https://www.creditkarma.com/networth

So for people who already have an existing credit karma account, you can get a taste of what the new credit karma networth looks like by visiting https://www.creditkarma.com/networth

I'll give credit karma a try for a few months. I'm not switching to anything else.

East West is a very different bank from both SVB and Signature, which had substantial concentrations in volatile venture capital and crypto deposits. Traditional Banking Model: With a diverse base of consumer, small business, and commercial customers, we have prioritized the diversification of our $64 billion balance sheet, including loans and deposits to many sectors to reduce any concentration risks. No one should move or sell a house just to take advantage of $500k capital gain. For example, moving just across the street.

However, in your case, it makes sense to move. But not because of the 500k capital gain. It is just a benefit but not a deciding factor.

I bought VFIRX ( Vanguard Short-Term Treasury) a few years ago. I'm a newbie and still new to investing in a taxable account. 1. How come VFIRX gives dividends, shortterm gains, and long term gains? Is that how all bonds behaves? This link shows dividends, short term and long term: https://investor.vanguard.com/mutual-funds/profile/distributions/VFIRX 2. I initially invested $50,000 into VFIRX. How come after 4 years, the money in VFIRX is below $50,000? I thought VFIRX is like cash and cash should not drop. Please note, I do not reinvest the dividends, short term, and long term. 3. Initially I bought VFIRX to be my bond allocation in taxable. I think I should switch away from cash into bonds. I'm thinking VWIUX (Vanguard Intermediate-Term ...

The very high salaries in this thread are from FAANG ( Facebook, apple, amazon, netflix, google). If you work for FAANG or similar tier 1 companies, then these high salaries are not a surprise regardless of location.

The hard part is not alot of people can get through the high bar interviews in these companies. It may sound easy to some. One recommendation is to practice leetcode.com often until you can solve them within 30 minutes.

Re: Living in the Bay Area, got an offer in LA: negotiation help wanted

Bay area should pay around 15% more than LA. So I'm surprised you have not got an offer above 200k in Bay Area. I think if you keep searching, you should be able to get 200k in Bay Area. I'm not sure how many years of experience you have.

LA or Bay Area is a personal choice. Bay area sililcon valley is the best for software engineers. Lot of great start up and tech companies. LA is okay and decent but not as good as Silicon Valley ofcoarse.

Offer with Company A is great. I would take it if moving to LA is your choice. usually it is the opposite direction. More people move from LA to Bay area for software jobs from personal experience. I'm from LA.

For software engineer, 150k - 200k.

Companies in Venice, Santa Monica or West of LA pays more. East of LA pays less but better for family life and easier commute.

Regarding grow your skillset, Bay Area is the best in the USA to grow your skillset. Nothing beats it. All the smartest software engineers I've met are in silicon valley. in LA, you have less choices than Bay area and less of a chance to grow skillset.
