Will inflation like the 70's ever return? Who knows. That's the whole point of my initial thread. Retirees need prtection from inflation and naturally would like to get a better absolute return than an all tips portfolio in times like we are in and possibly even in a high inflationary period.

In a high inflationary times such as the 70's these sector funds may give you positive absolute returns. Value funds will just lose less than their growth counter parts.

This is incredible!! I can't find a place to put my 08 es tax payments. I went to the above places you guys cited and either get a foreign tax credit or an explaination I won't need es tax for 09. Lot easier to "stay the course" if you are with Vanguard,huh? Don't have to worry about Vanguard taking unnecessary risk and "busting the buck" and having to close funds.

Managers make lot's of dough. Perhaps they invest like Larry in a large amount of muni's and a small amount in unusual equities, while managing a large cap fund. Probably lot's of valid reasons they don't invest in their own fund. Maybe their wife doesn't want them too!! Who knows. Tony
