Re: Techies provide me best practices
As others have stated: Use a password manager, change all passwords to unique, randomly generated passwords. Also change all "security questions" to unique, randomly generated answers, and store those in your password manager as well. Google Drive is good, but it's not encrypted. You may l...

Re: PC Build Suggestions
Supposedly 9th gen CPU's are soldered and don't need thermal paste? https://venturebeat.com/2018/10/08/intel-solder-9900k-i9/ The solder is only used between the CPU die and the IHS (integrated heat spreader) (the metal top part of the CPU where "Intel Core" and cpu specs are written). Yo...

Re: Is SSD PCIe storage suitable for a database?
Intel was a good pick. They have been doing PCIe drives for a long time, and SSD's for even longer. I trust them in the datacenter space, and I use them in our servers at work. If you have mirrored drives like you said, and good backups, then I wouldn't be overly worried. You would need to have a la...

Re: Download Security- Adobe PDF reader
A couple of tips. You can go into the settings in Acrobat Reader and change the setting for "Documents in recently used list" to 0. That way the recently opened files never get added to the list you see when you open Acrobat Reader. Also, I use FireFox as my browser, and configure the FF s...

Re: Anybody else having trouble with Fidelity site?
Okay, thanks all. That makes me feel better.
The fact that my personal account forced a password reset, and my wife's account password no longer worked just had me a little spooked.

Anybody else having trouble with Fidelity site?
I tried logging into my 401k account to do a regularly scheduled check-up. However, after logging in Fidelity told me due to security reasons that I had to reset my password. So, I went through the whole process and successfully reset my password and got access to my accounts. I double checked my co...

Re: Confused, Vanguard says I'm not getting a 1099-R
Thanks so much all. I looked in my "Taxes" filing folder and found my 1099-R from Schwab. They must have sent it right after I did the rollover and I forgot all about it. Luckily, I filed it away and didn't lose it.

Confused, Vanguard says I'm not getting a 1099-R
In 2012 I did a rollover from a previous employer's 401k plan to a new Vanguard IRA. Charles Schwab sent me a check, which I then sent to Vanguard. Shouldn't I be getting a 1099-R form for this? This is the first time I've done a rollover so I have no past experience to go on. I called Vanguard and ...

Question about Vanguard Direct Deposit
I recently set up my direct deposit on the Vanguard website. I had to choose whether I wanted to deposit into my 2012 Roth or my 2013 Roth. I chose my 2013 Roth. My question is what happens on my first paycheck for next year 2014? Will it continue to put money into my 2013 Roth, or will it switch ov...

HSA Strategy Question
I recently started a new job where I'm going to take advantage of an HSA account. The investment funds available don't look all that great to me. Here's the list: Neuberger Berman Real Estate A (NREAX) (1.21%) Oppenheimer Developing Markets A (ODMAX) (1.30%) American Funds Capital World G/I F-1 (CWG...
