Re: Medigap or Advantage? Lots of info/Lots of questions.

" If you choose an Advantage plan you are done with traditional Medicare forever - that's a one-way street" MA plan is an annual contract (January 1st through December 31) and as such the above statement is FALSE. You can choose to return to Original Medicare annually during Annual Enroll...

Re: AARP Medigap Plan F -- your experience w. rate increases

Although Medigap is standard across the nation, the rates are not. The amount, and timing of your rate increase will be determined by your State Department of Insurance. Here in TX AARP Medigap plans tend to run on the high side. That is not necessarily true for other states. There is a huge differe...

Re: Medicare Advantage vs Medigap

When I visit with my clients and they have to make similar choices, I ask them about their travel habits. Most Medicare Advantage plans limit coverage to a certain set of providers. If you are a "gypsy" and travel a great deal, you may be better off with the Medigap plan. However, if you a...

Re: Long Term care Insurance with high deductible????

Jim, what you are looking for does not exist. The concept of a deductible is foreign to LTCI. It is replaced by something called an Elimination Period. That is the amount of time you have to pay for Long Term Care expenses before the insurance kicks in. The longest Elimination Period that I have see...

Re: Changing Medigap Insurance

Thanks for your responses. This has helped me understand how changing Medigap insurance carriers works. What about changing your medigap plan with the same carrier? Is that any different from changing carriers? For example, if I want to go from Plan F to a less expensive plan with higher deductible...

Re: Changing Medigap Insurance

I have worked with Medicare Supplement insurance for several years. Actually, Medigap is regulated by both state and federal rules. In answer to your question, except at age 65 there is no guarantee approval period based on your birthday. In order to switch between insurance companies you must medic...

Re: Medigap - major medical? trying to help my friend

I am a licensed Life & Health Insurance Counselor who works mainly with Baby Boomers in Texas. Much of the information you have gotten on this forum is correct, however, there is something that nobody has mentioned. Medicare will only pay for a nursing home when it is "Medically Necessary&q...

Re: Medigap Plan F

Don't you have to medicaly qualify at the new company to switch? If you have bad pre-existing conditions I was under the impression that the company you pick at 65 is the only company that has to (or will) provide you Medicgap insurance. All the other companies can decline you after the open enroll...

Re: Medigap Plan F

Thanks for the responses so far. The strangest thing just happened--I mean a really strange coincidence. I just received a phone call from American Seniors Assistance--apparently a well-known scammer-- offering to help me with free Medicare benefits!! Be very careful of any person or organization t...

Re: Medigap Plan F

All Medigap plans are identical. Your Plan F with ABC company will be the same Plan F with XYZ company. The difference is premiums are for the brand name of the insurance company. They only pay what Medicare does not when Medicare pays something. The only exception is when you are out of the country...
