Re: Favorite "free stuff"?

I love it when people give my daughter things for free when they see how much she loves something or just wants to get a kid involved in their hobby. We were at the coin shop not too long ago and they gave her a foreign coin for free even though she was going to pay for it with her own money. Another guy gave her a few lures for free at his garage sale and told her that his neighbor gave him his first fishing pole when he was her age and wanted to pass on the tradition. Another gave her a giant fossil for free after she answered a few questions about dinosaurs. She was so proud of herself for "winning" this thing. I try to do this myself whenever possible. Wonderful story, when I was a kid a bank gave me a free piggy bank. That's...

Don't be intimidated. If you need to make a decision right now , a very good strategy is to choose a "target date retirement fund" with your approximate retirement year in it, from any mutual fund company. For example, if you are 25, then you might be retiring in forty years = 2058, so you would pick a fund with a name that has 2055 or 2060 in it (it doesn't matter much), like "Vanguard Target Retirement 2055" or "T. Rowe Price Retirement 2060" or "Schwab Target 2055." Make no mistake about it: this is OK. Everyone has their gripes with this category of fund, but if you aren't ready to choose individual funds stand your ground: these are OK. (My personal gripe is that I think most of them are too agg...

May be John Bogle and Warren Buffett were right about not needing any international. Based on the recent volatility the drop in international has been more than US and the gains smaller.

I love watches, but I am too cheap to pay out of my pocked to buy an expensive watch.
I have a Tissot (wedding present from in laws) and a solar-Casio that I rotate and wear everyday.
My dad gave me a omega as a graduation present that I don't wear since it is a gold watch.
From your collection I like the Omega constellation, how do you find used watches and how do you know they real and not fake?

I am 100% in Vanguard target retirement in my 401K. a low cost managed fund that is invested only in index funds and they do the rebalancing.
I was doing it myself by investing in individual index funds but was always struggling with asset allocation and didn’t know when to rebalance.
Now I don’t worry about it and haven’t touched it for over 5-years. Just contribute with every paycheck and leave the rest to Vanguard.

No benefit in having international when the market is going up since US does better and no benefit in down turns since they lose more than US.
I have the strong feeling that this is correct, until it isn't. Problem is I don't know when we'll get to "isn't".
But by the time we get to "isn't" the US market has out performed international significantly and when US drops the international drops as well.

The kids have been asking for a dog for years, we finally caved in and bought a 2 month old Maltese puppy. I was out of the country at that time so the family went to Petsmart and spend close to $450 worth of dog relate items that most of them are sitting there unused ( will probably never use). The kids realized dog is too much trouble and it takes too much of their time away from Netflix and Youtube so after a month they completely lost interest. My wife is exactly opposite, she is acting like she has a new child. I am the one that gets up in the middle of the night and let the dog out (2am and 4am). I buy all the dog food and toys from Walmart, no more Petsmart. The dog is crate trained and he loves his crate. Whenever he gets tired or s...
