Re: Is it possible to have a favorite movie

The Thing (John Carpenter's 1982 version) or Pulp Fiction - love them both equally, nothing else comes close.

Re: PrePaid Cell Phone Plan (2.5 weeks to determine and alig

+1 for Cricket's $35/mth plan (actually, +2, a co-worker spoke up and concurs) I'd also say the T-Mobile $30/mth plan is a close second -- its network coverage prevents it from being #1 in my book. I vacation in Texas hill country; Cricket is 4G LTE (due to being on AT&T network) while T-Mobile ...

Re: Love Kimchi

As a white-bread boy, I love kimchi. Find your nearest H-Mart and you will find many choices. http://www.hmart.com/ +100 H-Mart has become a destination for some coworkers and myself. Excellent, fully authentic dishes from a dozen different in-store restaurants (the one I go to uses 10 foot menus w...

Re: Lipitor at Costco with Membership

A great resource is GoodRX.com whenever you're doing comparison shopping for prescriptions. They also have an excellent mobile app. Sometimes, you'll be able to find a coupon for a further discount on the lowest price in your area. I just did a quick search based upon the OP's mention of Lipitor. I ...

First backers that have received their orders have reported Soylent has already started to change their lives in a positive way. It could be confirmation bias, who knows. With that said, some have done detailed testing including: - Comprehensive blood panels - Body weight and body fat percentage - C...

Re: Stopping Junk Mail

+1 for Paper Karma smartphone app. I've submitted 13 pieces of mail. It recognized 11 of them and so far, no new junk mail from those 11. The other 2 were from very generic spam mail/coupon services, so I suppose there was no central point for Paper Karma to send whatever cease and desist letter the...

Re: Tipping for a haircut at Great Clips

I leave GreatClips $20 poorer no matter what. +1 - given how much I budget in Mint each month for various things like this, I know exactly what I'll spend before going into a place. This usually translates into a $14 haircut + $6 tip. However, sometimes I've noticed they only bill me $11 (maybe bec...

They also have a great smartphone app. My wife has medications and we're saving in the neighborhood of 50% each month compared to the Dark Ages (pre-GoodRX).

Re: Great Finance History Book

Thank you, Dr. Bernstein.

I picked up your Four Pillars book on Kindle awhile ago, bought a hardcopy at a local bookstore, and gifted 3 more copies to friends of mine. With that level of confidence in your word, keep your recommendations such as this one coming.

Thanks for all you do.

Re: iPhone Case

I picked mine up from http://www.Carved.com and have nothing but good things to say about them. They're a very small startup, but the case has met all my expectations to date. Service was also very fast, receiving my case just a few business days after ordering. There's many choices for styles, but ...

Re: No emergency fund for me. I use inverse ETF's as a sub

i would rather maintain a leveraged long short portfolio, than have cash on the side. under the right market conditions, your leveraged hedge has a chance to make more money than if you only held an emergency fund. But ... an emergency fund's purpose isn't to make money . It's not an investment. It...

Re: No emergency fund for me. I use inverse ETF's as a sub

I'm still waiting to hear how this has anything to do with an emergency fund. Using leveraged inverse ETFs that, completely ignoring volatility, still take T+3 to settle doesn't seem like the definition of liquid funds I can have *today* should tragedy strike. One can't go to the ATM and withdraw fr...

Re: Jamaica Vacation - Any tips?

Deanbrew,

Thanks for the tip! What were your thoughts about the Bahamas vs. the Caribbean? I've looked into cruises leaving from Galveston (I reside in Texas) and heading out to Nassau for a week.

Eventually, I'd like to make my way to Grenada and see what all the expat fuss is about.

Re: Jamaica Vacation - Any tips?

My wife and I took a 7 day cruise in September with Montego Bay, Jamaica being one of the ports of call. After a day there we both agreed: "Jamaica, not even once." It was probably one of the worst experiences we've ever had on any trip - it almost ruined the whole cruise. My wife actually...

Re: Moving to Dallas, TX

I moved to the DFW metroplex in 2006 from a colder climate outside of Detroit. It was one of the best decisions ever for both personal and professional reasons. A few things: * It will take 3+ years to get acclimated to the summers. They're fairly dry as you're in northern Texas, which makes it bear...

Re: Financial Books We Detest

I'll toss up a vote for anything by Suze Orman. Most of my books are purchased at Half Price Books. I will literally turn my head sideways (to better read each title) and spend 20 minutes going through every single finance book they have. Yet, when I get down to the "O"s I skip the entire ...
