Thank for the site.LadyGeek wrote:Hello vset,
You are asking this question in several threads - but there is no response. In summary, you would like to create a 3-fund portfolio which trades in EUR currency. The purpose is to avoid currency risk.
I have searched for you, but can find no funds. Perhaps others can search? Here is my search engine: ETF Classification System - IndexUniverse.com
One must also consider the taxes, as described in this wiki article: EU investing
You can not find a 3-fund portfolio which trades inside your country? What is your country?
Now I am living in Portugal.
Any suggestion for the portfolio?

Re: A Permanent portfolio for the Eurozone
I have been using the PP for 3 years. I DON'T think it will work in any country but the US, and especially not in Europe. The main reason gold works well in a US PP is that the dollar is the world's reserve currency. Gold primarily reacts to changes in the US monetary system. If you are in a smaller country gold could be declining because of things in the US even if your country is experiencing inflation. Secondly, the EU countries have nominal default risk that doesn't exist in the US because the US borrows in its own currency. The US can always make its payments in a deflationary depression. If the US every lost its "top dog" status I would make serious adjustments to my portfolio. ! that is new for me :( So what do you ...

Re: Investing options for European Union citizens
@ValueThinker In regards to invest in ETF that trade in a different currency than yours, what do you think about the constant injecting and withdrawal in a different currency? One will be always exposed to the fluctuations of the currency, right? So, that won't affect the investor only if we believe that the theory of reversion to the mean is going to be valid throughout our lifetime. But what if, for instance, one lives in the eurozone but invests only in USD based ETF, and the EURUSD happens to constantly increase / decrease over a 20 year period? Won't that affect our portfolio? But if we only work with ETFs traded in EUR, at least we won't have to worry with that. I understand that the portfolio will vary with the varying currencies co...

What would you say to a person in 2012 who had spent 40 years with a PP-like allocation and had enjoyed 9.5% average annual returns (4.5% inflation-adjusted) with very low volatility over the entire period? Would you tell them they had made an error? I'm more concerned as to what you would say to a person in 2052 who spends the *NEXT* 40 years with a PP-like allocation. i would probably say: "Well, over these last 40 years we've seen a lot--inflation, deflation, prosperity and recession. The Permanent Portfolio was always ready, even if I wasn't." The theory behind the Permanent Portfolio is, in a sense, almost too simple for people to grasp--if there are a finite number of economic conditions and you own at least one asset that ...

Hi, and what about to create 2, 3 different LAZY PORTFOLIOS? Let's say having Harry Brownes + 3 Funds Portfolio + David Swensen ? What are the problems we can face? Thank you all! I think simpler is better. So if you want to run a Permanent Portfolio I would be more tempted to augment it with a simple stock index fund if you felt so inclined. It already holds bonds/cash which approximate an intermediate term treasury bond fund similar to what those other portfolios use. Hello :sharebeer can you please explain it better with more details so I can understand. Thank you and my best regards! Meaning that the strategies you listed above all have good attributes. Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe/Germany
Your other post is full of cherry picked time frames "gold doesn't look frothy when you look at it over 10 years," and full of recentcy bias... Unless of course you think long term treasuries are going to replicate the returns they gained going from ~18% to 3% over 30 years, and that gold will continue its Tulip-like run of the last 10 year - and ignore all the rest of gold history which suggests gold follows inflation with volatility. Reversion to the mean. If you want to bury your head in the sand and not see those points, then at least admit that cash aint earning 2%, and will have a negative real return. That leaves equities. No issue there. I like equities. IMO 75% of the PP (Long Tres, Gold, Cash) will have a negative real ...

Some ideas. (1) You could change your topic's title to be something more descriptive in the hope of getting a more targeted response. Example: "Seeking European Portfolio Samples (and how to)" From original title, we didn't know you were looking for European examples, so knowledgeable European investors frequenting this forum may have ignored your post thinking is was US specific. (2) You could search the forum and Wiki (upper right box on this page) for "European portfolio", "European investor", "European investing", .... Sample *results found: *I did not read each in detail to see if it was appropriate for you. I'm leaving that task for you. "*Permanent Portfolio for Europe (follow up)": ...

So if you want to be highly conservative and take minimum risks, after the Cash deposits what would be your asset allocation ?

As of 2012, Vanguard provides a tool that in fact recommends a three-fund portfolio of the kind championed by Taylor, with percentages based on your responses to a short online questionnaire. The tool is entitled Get a recommendation to fit your goals ; you can navigate to it by way of Vanguard.com, Go to personal investors' site, What we offer: Mutual Funds, Get a Recommendation. Re: Long term successful investing portfolio
Dear colleagues ,
you in US use Vanguard for the Three fund portfolio:
From Vanguard's list of "core funds," the funds that are best for a three-fund portfolio are:
Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX)
Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund (VGTSX)
Vanguard Total Bond Market Fund (VBMFX)
I in EU will use:
One could, of course, use ETFs rather than mutual funds. For example, one could use Total Stock Market ETF (VTI) [1], Vanguard FTSE All-World ex-US ETF (VEU) [2] for international, and Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF (BND).
What are the differences? Commissions?
Shall I open an Interactive Brokers account or I can use ETF's here in our european brokers?
Thank you!
