We once lived in Albuquerque and "swamp" (evaporative) coolers were pretty much standard. If you wanted your house cooler, you opened the windows more (causes more circulation). But, this worked so well because of the low humidity of the area. The higher the humidity, the less they work.

Have you been to mytractorforum.com ? I subscribe to their newsletter (free) and enjoy the many stories from users of tractors. Many take pride in keeping really old equipment going.
