Around 1950, corporate boards reduced dividend payouts and started using excess cash to buy back stock. This was primarily a result of changes in executive compensation from cash to stock incentive programs that included stock option programs for key employees.

The Schwab Intelligent Portfolio is way, way, way, way to complicated. They have about four times the number of ETFs in the portfolio that need to be there. There are funds for the sake of having a lot of funds giving the impression the portfolio is sophisticated. Not needed!

There isn't always a clear relationship between risk & return ex-post. The clear relationship is between expected risk and expected return ex-ante. We judge risk, estimate a payoff for taking that risk, then either walk away or dive in. There are no guarantees.

ESG bond funds are few and far between. There is one decent one and I identify it. The alternative is to use Treasury bonds, GNMAs, and taxable municipal bonds including BAB or some combination of these.

I've always used 30% international equity and 70% US equity as my middle-of-the-road allocation (for US investors). That split has historically worked well in the long-term.

I think Ferri has the wrong approach, or at least a muddled one. Simplicity can be good, especially for addressing some of the behavioral aspects of investing. As long as the advisers "primarily" do low-fee investing or do it by default. I won't preclude a manager if they'll manage a client account that has low-cost basis stocks or the clients wants a few individual names.
