IMHO Michelin is the Tide laundry detergent of tires. I like any large fairly household name brand of tires, my father its got to be Michelin. Not a Toyota, but I am rocking Michelins on my Mazda 3 (they weren't much more expensive than competitors which wasn't the case when I drove a pickup).

Re: U.S. stocks in free fall
Just have to chime to say in addition to Carlos Danger & others I got a good LOL at the technical analysis bearish wedge chart above. I think there could be a faint there there to some TA (more in day or swing trades), I incorporate some in to my "funny money" bucket. Like some of the TA books/blogs I've skimmed things do tend to happen in a patterns (like boglehead style investing always working out well in the long run ). To counter the bearing wedge TA theory, could just as easily predict we're going to get a bounce near the late May early June low (which I thought was funny to use physical terms like bounce & momentum to graph of price charts). We'll see.

Anyone else taking advantage of 0% APRs for purchases / balance transfers? I am putting all my spend on these types of cards and investing the proceeds.I plan to keep rolling this debt over at 0%. Of course you need to have a big enough portfolio so that you can always pay off the balance. This is way better than margin loans for many reasons: *You are borrowing below the risk free rate, so could lock in small risk free profits by buying treasuries *If you invest in risk assets it is superior to margin loans because the debt is non-callable Been doing this for a few years (similar strategy to yours but originally geared toward eliminating higher interest debt). I've been using Chase, Discover, Capital One & Citi as they've routinely of...

Re: Healthcare Insurance Advice Request
You have health insurance (family) and the premiums and deductibles went up. Is your plan considered a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and does it have an Health Savings Account (HSA) component? Hard to follow, but downgrading your plan might have been a mistake. You might lower the premiums and pay more out of pocket or have larger co-pays. ACA won't be an option because you have health insurance provided by your employer. Your deductibles do not seem that far out of line. My megacorp has $6,250 as the Family deductible. Anything not considered preventative comes out of our pocket or HSA. This is a different world from the PPO days where we never paid a cent. Do you only have one option at work? Is there a PPO and an HDHP with HSA plan...

Hi all, I am looking for BH’s wisdom on health insurance. I’ll try to keep this as short as possible, but happy to provide any details if need be to come to a better decision. Family of 4, my wife & I both 32 both in good shape (wife is a SAHM & way better shape than me; I need to step it up) two healthy children 4 & 1. No preexisting conditions (I know that term kind of has a specific meaning in health circles, I mean neither has diabetes or takes a prescription each month, don't/never smoked), not planning on having any more children at this time (i.e. next 12 months if ever). 12% tax bracket. What you suggest is more or less an argument in favor of the 'incumbents' curse', a long-standing but now controversial theory.

I've listened to a ton of Dave Ramsey, mostly 10+ years ago when I had lengthier commutes. He is a marginal net positive infotainer imo. People who are absolutely abysmal at finance (not most people who read Bogleheads) do really benefit from him imho. Him pumping: living on less than you make and a budget etc. are where he should be commended. He veers quickly in to the abhorrent with his investing advice, constant selling and I can't stand his callers who refer to his for profit business as a "ministry" but that's just me.
I prefer Clark Howard of the financial infotainers. He provides actionable information i.e. here's a specific, product, service, step to take to save a buck or two.

Cell Carrier Switch Advice From AT&T To?
I know, another cell thread. :-( I'm trying to switch cell phone carriers to save a few bucks for my DW. Pretty much require a lot of data (5GB+) & iPhone - gets a lot of use for her small business. Right now I'm paying AT&T $80/mth for 6GB (do regularly butt up/go over tap in to a small rollover data) + $25/mth for a 128GB iPhone 7 with a balance of $324.99 (ebay tells me I'm at about break even on this) to go so $112/mth w/ taxes. I saw T-Mobile as the lone "we'll pay off your old phone completely" competitor. Do others? I was leaning toward them because they offer included Netflix to go with them paying switching cost, so I was thinking $70 (supposed all in no add'l taxes) for unlimited data (more data less money - yes ...

I'm doing my annual online quote gathering to keep my local non captive agent honest. I feel like I should strongly consider dropping comprehensive & collision or should have about 2-3 years ago. This is for my 05 Chevy Silverado with ~140K miles on it. I drive about 8 miles one way to work. KBB has a private sale value of $4-6K on it. Basically sits idle on nights & weekends save something where a truck comes in handy. Geico is quoting me $20 & $40 per 6 months for Comp/Collision respectively so $160 annually for both which exceeds the 10% rule Clark Howard uses https://clark.com/insurance/how-to-shop-for-auto-insurance/ I view transportation as just that, so could I take a ~$5K auto loss? Lot of options here in FL. Given your parameters, my best guess would have to be like other posted suggested Saraslowta/Siesta Key. Siesta Key is unreal as a beach. It will be a little bit crowded, but nothing like the zoo South Florida (Ft.Lauderdale-Miami, no offense if you like 3rd world Florida, just not my cup of tea).

Agree with others about there being no right or wrong here. I share the same the sentiment in the idea of a 15 year mortgage & going el cheapo on the down payment. I’ll offer some other considerations:
Modest starter house? So you don’t want to own it long term? Or do you & want to rent it in the future? I don’t know. I would consider a 30 YR & make minimum payments, the fact that you’re having this discussion lends me to believe in 4-10 years you’ll want a bigger & better house. Don’t see a ton of 5-10 upside in a modest starter house in AL vs Boglehead investing.

Watty's has some good questions. I'd add some other considerations:
How is your health? Common to live in to your 90s in your genes? 70s more realistic?
Anyone you are hoping to leave inheritance to? Like to leave someone a paid/almost paid for home?
Sidenote: Also with Watty, not seeing a zero work retirement of much comfort in the super near future.

My prize this week from the used vinyl store is the Led Zeppelin II album, 1969 Atlantic. This copy is a 1977 reissue and the cover is worn a bit with a corner missing from some animal or possibly human chewing, but the album is sweet and plays near perfect with only a slight tick here and there. $8.00 Loved this album as a teen and still do 40 years later. The album is an intersection of blues, rock, and metal, and in retrospect is seen as a foundation piece for large chunk of the music over the next 20 years. I like the album for the blues aspect most and throughly enjoy 'Whole Lotta Love', which was significantly influenced by the Willie Dixon written, Muddy Waters performed 1963 release, 'You Need Love' . The band must have thought so ...
