Re: What will happen if I refuse to pay a medical bill?
This is probably an issue where the OP has not met his deductible, as others have surmised.
OP, you have a deductible that you must meet before your insurance pays? If so, even if the doctor accepts your insurance, you might be on the hook until you meet your deductible.
My plan has a 2000 deductible. My plan explicitly states that the insurance pays 100% of cost AFTER the deductible is met. So, even if a doctor accepts my insurance, I pay everything until the deductible is met. Then the insurance starts to pay the claims.

Have the Apple Watch series 2. I compared it to a chest heart rate monitor and got identical readings.
There have been a few times where the watch might not get a reading for a minute or two, but that seems to be if the watch is a little loose. The vast majority of the time it has worked without any issue.
I would definitely recommend it. I have no experience with the Fitbit, so can't comment on that.

To the OP - I agree with others above that you need to find a better way to assess your current savings and planned withdrawals to get a better idea about the ability of your savings to last.
Try firecalc.com - you plug in your current savings, planned savings, planned withdrawals and it gives you your chances of sustaining the withdrawals over time.

The 240,000 loan at 6.5% is a killer. It's not worth investing any money with a loan this size and this rate still owed. You will never be able to guarantee a 6.5% return on your investments (which you would need just to break even). I wouldn't worry about investing anything until this loan is gone. Even if you refinance at a lower rate, it still might be better to concentrate on paying off this loan.

Re: Kitchen island
There is the concept of the kitchen triangle, which has been mentioned above. You should make sure that you can reach the island easily from the kitchen sink, refrigerator, and stove. If you are washing fruits or vegetables, it is convenient to turn from the sink to the island so you can chop them. You don't want to walk as you'll then be dripping water everywhere. By the same token, when you take stuff out of the refrigerator you should be able to turn and place things right on the island. After you've prepped food on the island, you should be able to turn to place the food on the stovetop or in the oven without walking. I think the OPs current plan of 40 inches between the stove and island and between refrigerator and island is a bit too ...

You (the OP) should be able to set up a self-directed "non-prototype account" at Fidelity (Also called an FBO, or for-benefit-of account). Our 3rd party administrator allows that feature. I am able to invest in the Fidelity Index funds. There is a provision in the Plan Document that allows all participants this option, so it is not for my benefit solely. Spirit Rider is correct that your overall contributions may be limited due to non-discrimination testing. The safe harbor provision would allow for deferral of 18,000 a year, but employer contribution would be based on passing non-discrimination testing. Some 3rd party administrators are "better" at applying new comparability than others. Your current 401k plan provider ...

I am of the opinion that trying to invest in these factors is not worth the time or effort. I am not Larry Swedroe, so obviously my opinion on this may not matter much. I think that these factors are interesting to write about and they are interesting to read about. When AQR writes a paper and people then cite their paper, that improves their street cred and may lead to an influx in money into their funds. Which helps AQR. When a financial advisor writes about these funds and mentions how he uses them for his clients, that may lead to an inflow of funds to that advisor. So, I'm skeptical of such things. The thing is, investing in factors is guaranteed to provide returns that differ from investing a market portfolio. There is no way around i...

I'd be careful about Employee Fiduciary or Betterment as well. A lot of places offer profit-sharing plans but use cookie cutter plan documents and are not able to take advantage of New Comparability testing. As such, employers end up paying a ton in profit-sharing contributions that could be avoided. You want a third party administrator (TPA) that can use these testing rules to maximize contributions to owners and minimize profit-sharing to employees. We had Employee Fiduciary and were shocked at how their calculations would have cost double what our new TPA was able to calculate. So, we now have a TPA for drafting plan documents and calculating profit-sharing amounts. Employees can set up a non-prototype FBO account at Fidelity for self-di...

Have a 65 inch Samsung 4K. The difference in picture quality compared to 1080p is noticeable and is amazing. It looks like you are looking at something outside your window. The issue of course is the limited amount of content in 4K. Netflix has a decent selection (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Marco Polo, and I think most Netflix produced content). Amazon Prime also has a decent number of shows. For live TV and sports events there really isn't anything I'm aware of. 4K is not a necessity but there is a certain "wow" factor to having it and it really is amazing how much more detail you can see and how that changes the level of enjoyment of the programming. Nobody needs a 4K TV. Nobody needs a Rolex. But, if it brings enjoyment an...

Re: anyone have any exerience with mold on hardwood floors?
Do you have a picture you can upload? When were the floors last refinished? We had some hardwood issues, more related to a bad buff and coat with the polyurethane peeling, so first question is to make sure this is a mold issue versus some problem with the finish itself.

Re: Vacuum for hardwood
I'll echo the posters that love their Miele. Have a Miele Olympus and bought the Parquet Twister XL Smooth Floor Brush . The brush is really wide and shortens the time needed to vacuum the floors.
