Re: Possibly Financially Independent and Feeling Miserable

Like many of us do take some time "off".
Help others. There are lots of humans who do not have the bare necessities. If God has been kind to you, open your heart and help someone.

Re: Why bother with a 529?

The benefits of tax free growth cannot be understated especially if you are in the 33% tax bracket. You could end up paying one whole year of college with that money. Also, less 10% still leaves you with 23% in your hand which is not a bad deal.
Re: Why bother with a 529?
I'm a decade older than you and have untaxed gains in 529s in the six figures. So that's about $20,000 of tax savings already. Expect it to double by the time the funds are used. Even in the 33% tax bracket, $40,000 ain't chump change./quote] The benefits of tax free growth cannot be understa...

Re: Another 529 question

Yes. Ideally, it is better to have $150 k tucked away now and let it grow. Maneesh is right. Hopefully there will be a reform because colleges are ridiculously expensive. But it is like saving for retirement. Expect to pay $250k in today's money. If you are making more than $160k do not expect any c...

Re: Concierge medicine Worth It????

I work in a doctor's office and I see the amount of paperwork insurance companies have us do everyday. More than 50% of the doctor's time goes in filling prior authorization for medications our patients need. Every procedure, every referral, every medication nowadays generate more paperwork for the ...

I buy it in equal monthly installments over the year. I am in same situation, maxed out on all other retirement vehicles and contribute 20000 to bonds for the next 15 years. Thanks Mel. I bought I bonds based on your posts in 2001 and am very happy now.

Re: Self employed - do you use Quick Books or other tools

I use Quickbooks. It is easy. Download transactions directly from bank in two minutes. It takes about a couple of hours to set up everything but once you do that you can download everything and categorize within minutes. I use ADP Run for Payroll. Again easy to use and the basic version is not that ...
