Re: Decent compensation to move to Bay Area CA?

hey OP, just wanted to add my experience as my family went through a similar decision a few years ago I have a wife and two kids and relocated from midwest where we owned our home. We're about 30 now. Our experience so far has been positive. I'm not sure if we'll retire here, but it's been a great f...

Re: Can we afford to stay in HCOL area?

May I ask, with similar incomes, similar age and 2 kids, what mortgage do you think this income can handle? Let's assume no outside factors such as significant savings or family help, just based solely on work income. (No need to answer if you don't want to.) I don't think I'd want to go above $5k ...

Re: Can we afford to stay in HCOL area?

My wife and I relocated our family from a very LCOL city to the Bay Area a couple of years ago. We live in Burlingame and love it here - we're 30 with 2 kids (6 and 6 mos). We have similar income and currently rent our home - rent is obviously very expensive in this area, but so far we've made it wo...

Re: Bay Area Real Estate

Re: Looking for a house around San Jose, CA

My family is in a similar situation in Burlingame. We're currently paying $4.5k rent for a 3 bedroom house. My son is starting kindergarten next month and one of the biggest factors that will likely keep us in here is the schools. I think it's going to be really tough to realistically save enough to...

Re: mutual fund investment

The risk doesnt worry me too much. I am willing to let this money sit for a number of years before touching it. The vigrx looks to me like a solid place to start, but I am unsure as to where it falls in terms of expenses compared to similar funds. Aside from my 401k this will be my first splash and ...

Re: mutual fund investment

Thanks a lot

One quick question: When I attempt to invest in VIGAX through my Scottrade account I get "Fund closed to new investors". Why is this and will it ever open back up again?

mutual fund investment

Please go easy this is my first post here. I've got $10000 I'm looking to invest into one or more mutual funds. I've registered at morningstar.com and done a little research, but I am really interested to get some general advice from bogleheads users as well. I won't need to touch this money for a n...
