Well, from what I can gather from the above comments, it is still rather iffy if the 2022 H &R Block software will handle an 8911 form seamlessly. Right?

EV Charging Station tax rebate with H&R Block tax software
Last year's H &R Blocks Deluxe taxSoftware did not contain the form for the EV charging Fed rebate. Curious if someone who has already purchased the 2022 version could inform me if it includes the form. I think it is form 8911.

Re: Best EV for around $50k?
Mustang Mach E also an option, especially since it’s eligible for $7500 tax credit this year and next year. You can get a ‘22 select or CA rt1 at/below $50k, premium slightly above. Just have to shop around different dealers, they have customer cancellations they want to offload. I have a 2021 Mach E Premium and love it. You may find a Mach E Select for under $50,000, but a Premium or Ca Rt1 would bring the price to the mid $50's or higher. Also ,most dealers having cancelations are able to add an ADM (Additional Dealer Markup) to the MSRP price of the canceled car because of demand. Also, the $7500 rebate would be available for deliveries to the end of the year, but there is some question about whether the year 2023 cars will be eligible ...

Best Advice: Posts by AZrunner and SScritic helped me at the age of 65 make the decision to delay S.S. until age 70 and claim spousal benefits, as well as the mechanics on how to do it. Now 15 years later we continue to live comfortably on S.S. and minimal withdrawals from our Vanguard portfolios. Sadly neither AZrunner nor SScritic have posted anything for a number of years.

Electric Veh. Charging station installation tax credit. (H&R Block)
It is my understanding there is a 50% Fed. tax credit on the purchase and installation of an electric vehicle charging station. However, I am unable to find where to enter it on my TY2021 H&R Block Deluxe tax software. I'm I missing something, or will I need a higher (Premium) version of the tax software? Or I'm I wrong about there even being a rebate for 2021?

You are correct. QCD checks written directly to charity do not show a link to view them. I'll have to give my Personal Advisor a call and see if he can access them. Thanks for your response.heartwood wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 5:28 pm go to the account you wrote the check on, go to Account Activity, look under Name for a link with the check number, click and you see the check images.
WRT to QCD, you probably won't see that check unless you wrote it yourself. When I did QCD Vanguard wrote the check in the name of the college and sent it to me. I mailed it to the college. I never saw a check listed in my Account Activity. YMMV.
I eventually called Vanguard to confirm it was cashed.

Viewing cashed checks on Vanguard Personal investment web site.
In the recent past, I believe I, was able to view a scanned copy of the canceled checks written on my Vanguard account. I can no longer find that option on their website. I don't know if Vanguard stopped providing this service, or I just can't find it, or maybe a just dreamed I was able to do it at one time. Vanguard debits my account immediately after they are written but I would like to verify that they were cashed. In particular, I would like to check my QCD checks. Not all my charities send an acknowledgment of the gift or they wait till the beginning of the next year to do so. Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Re: Don't hit that "File" button in your tax software till you know what filing early does to your 3rd stimulus check
I filed my 2020 taxes through H&R block in early March. I owe an additional $900 in taxes which will come out of my checking on April 15. I'm well below the cutoff AGI for the third stimulus check, but I have not yet received it. Originally my status on the IRS website states I am eligible and the money would be electronically deposited in my checking account. But more recently it was changed to being mailed on April 2. I have yet to see it. Is it possible that it is being delayed because I filed my 2020 taxes but the payment will come not out of my checking until April 15? Or should I start worrying about it being lost in the mail.

$7500 tax credit on EV purchase
I am thinking about putting $100 down on a VW ID.4 EV reservation. The actual delivery would not be until late summer. I have two questions regarding the $7500 Fed. tax credit. First, must the credit be taken in the same year as the purchase or can one carry over a portion of the credit to the following tax year. The second question somewhat connected to the first question relates to quarterly tax payments already made in the year of purchase. For example, if my tax liability is $7500 and I have already made a quarterly payment of $2000 would I only be able to use $5500 of the Electric vehicle tax rebate?

I have a Gilson 2-stage from the 1970''s with a Tecumseh engine. I have it serviced every 5 years whether it needs it or not. Still starts with a couple of pulls in the coldest weather. Needs a new belt occasionally but other than that has been trouble-free. It is heavy with a lot of cast iron parts and thick plate steel for the collector. They of course are no longer sold. Lawnboy bought them out in the late 80's and Toro then bought Lawnboy and completely destroyed the brand. I think the closest machine to buy today would be one of the top of the line Ariens.

My obligatory endorsement of the best $60 (now $100) investment I’ve made in my life, an oat roller: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7QXV5A/ Since getting this, I wake up with more spring in my step, eat more healthy, and am more productive. For those who prefer steel cut, go for it. But to me there is far more ‘flavor freshness’ in freshly rolled oats than steel cut oats in a bag. My oat roller has four different thickness settings which provides more variety also. An alternative to rolling your own. - A local entrepreneur has set up small milling machines in local grocery stores filled with oat groats. I can roll what I need for a week at $2.00/lb. Here is how I make my morning oatmeal fix: In a 20oz. double-walled plastic bowl I add 1/2 c...

I am an "expert" on your question, having experienced all of the same 529 transfer problems Vanguard has described to you. Yes, they are giving you a straight answer on all the ways you can make deposits to their 529 accounts. We are not in Vanguard's PAS program, but my wife and I have a joint revocable trust account at Vanguard that holds 100% of our taxable savings, except for a small amount in our BoA checking account. It turns out once you have set up a Vanguard/Nevada 529 account you can transfer funds directly to the 529 from a plain vanilla Vanguard account, but NOT from a PAS account, a trust account, or any type of custodial account. As I understand it, these limitations are imposed by Nevada, not by Vanguard. Vanguard ...

Problem transferring money from Personal Advisor managed Joint Vanguard brokerage account to 529 accounts.
I would like to transfer money out of my Joint taxable brokerage account, which is managed by my personal advisor, to a couple of Vanguard 529 educational accounts. My advisor advised me he could not do it because the joint account is managed by him and the 529's are self managed (apparently 529's cannot be managed by a Personal advisor). He suggested calling flagship services. They could not do it either and transferred me twice to different units. The bottom line it seems is that it cannot be done without a bunch of hassle. The options they gave me were: 1. They can send me a form to fill out, have it notarized, send it back and then it seems they can do the transfer. 2. Transfer the funds to my banking accout and then I write a check pay...

I was contacted by my "RELATIONSHIP MANAGER" at Vanguard via my account to set up an appointment "to discuss a few account related items", so I did. He was fairly new to being assigned to my account within the last year or so as I noticed the face changed on my home screen at some point last year. Anyway, the guy couldn't have been nicer and easier to speak with. He listened and it was anything but a hard sell. Consumer Cellular notified us yesterday that they've increased the limits on their data plans. For the plans that we've used so far: $5 - increased from 250 MB to 500 MB $10 - increased from 2 GB to 3 GB Their other plans are now $20 - 10 GB $30 - 15 GB $40 - 25 GB Shucks, I switched to FreeUP mobile a couple of weeks ago. I was enrolled in the basic CC talk plan + $5 data plan for $20.00 + about $5 in fees. The 250 MB wasn't quite enough for me ( 500 MB would have been sufficient) so I switched to FreeUP's $20 plan which includes fees and 2GB of data. However, I have found the FreeUP cellular data coverage to be somewhat hit and miss even though both carriers run of AT&T towers. I'm wondering if AT&T prioritizes the service depend...

While you lie in bed dying you might also think about how you could have left your wife a monthly soc. sec. check double that of the pitifully small amount based on taking soc. sec. at age 62. But what if your spouse has the larger benefit so after you die, your benefit just ends (since the survivor gets the largest of the two)? Our situation is we will have almost identical PIAs but since my wife is 16 months older than me, her FRA is four months younger than mine so she ends up with the slightly larger age 70 benefit. I'm retired, she's still working for another year or two (to somewhere between age 64 and 65). Since I'm retired, I have been looking at what happens if I start mine at 62 while she waits until 70. Re: Anyone itching to dabble in crypto?
I scratched the itch to dabble in crypto back in Nov. 2017. Here is my experience. I opened an account with Coinbase and bought $200 worth of Etherium. Within three months my account went up to over $500 and I thought 'this is easy' - I should have bought $2000 or maybe even $200,000 and I would now be very rich. However, soon after it peaked at around $560 it started a downward trend and by the beginning of 2019 my account was down to less than $70. It has since risen back up to around $120 but my experience is a constant reminder to me that it may be ok to dabble in risky investments but don't bet your retirement on it.

Don't know how you are approaching the UP - coming across the Mackinaw bridge or through the Wisconsin border, but don't underestimate the size of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. From the western tip to Drummond Is. on the east end you will travel over 500 miles and if you add in the Keweenaw Peninsula another couple hundred miles, almost all on 2 lane roads. That being said here are my suggestions for places to visit , more or less from west to east. - Porcupine Mountains - Copper mine in Hancock and trip up to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula at Copper Harbor. - Pictured Rocks at Munising - Seney National Wildlife Refuge - Kitch-iti-kipi (a must see natural Freshwater spring in Palm State Park near Manistique) - Tahquamenon Falls ( my f...

In fact PAS will set up an asset allocation and hold it, rebalancing periodically. If you have sufficient assets to be a Flagship client (and perhaps Voyager Select, you'd need to check with them) you are entitled to a free annual plan. It's the same plan they'd use if you hired them. So it's up to you to decide if having them put the plan into effect and the ability to call them whenever you feel the need is worth .3% of your assets each year.

What has been your experience in asking for a free annual plan and then being pressured to hire them for PAS services?

Thanks, I'll investigate and report back. I think collision detection is not the same as parking assist. I cannot find any reference to the Parking Assist that I am writing about in the manual nor on YouTube. Apparently, there are after-market Parking Assist add-ons though. Here is a youtube video of what I am writing about, but for a Lexus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br5sA1__-5g So do you have a page number in an Outback manual for this feature? Page 30 of Eyesight manual says this: "Pre-Collision Braking Assist function does not operate when t...

Re: Using Lastpass as your password manager
Hackers tend to go for the low hanging fruit. Those who use password managers are definitely not the low hanging fruit. Those who use "password" as their password are. No doubt. From a 2017 Pew Research article: Still, just 12% of internet users say that they ever use password management software themselves – and only 3% say that this is the password technique they rely on most. Instead, roughly two-thirds (65%) of internet users say that memorization is the main or only way they keep track of their online passwords – and another 18% rely primarily on writing their passwords down on a piece of paper. But, but what if one takes it a step further? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vo11-MPJP1vEXk5QiE8Kps2-kTZJut3oPQ/view?usp=s...

Re: Subaru: Crosstrek or Outback?
My two cents worth: We have a 2017 Outback Touring and it has, for the most part, met our expectations. However, size is often in the eye of the beholder. We previously owned a GMC Envoy SUV and now find the Outback to be somewhat lacking in rear compartment storage but still workable. We waffled back and forth between the Outback and Forester before purchasing. We are glad we went with the somewhat larger Outback. Also, the Outback is the only Subaru manufactured in the US. Soon, if not already, the tariff on the Forester will bring the MSRP up to or more than the larger and somewhat better-equipped Outback. DCB The Impreza, Impreza WRX, Legacy, Outback, Forester, and Tribeca are all made right here. It’s good for you, the consumer, becau...

Just to clarify. Unless the rule has changed recently, the 3-day rule is not three full days but must include three midnights.

Re: Any kayakers here?
I took up kayaking shortly after retiring at age 55. I am now 76 and in spite of some age-related physical limitations (arthritic knees, hips, shoulders) I still enjoy getting out on the water. Like my fellow Michigander, Yooper16, I enjoy kayaking the many small rivers, streams, marshes, and lakes of 'Pure Michigan'. Kayaking these waters has offered numerous opportunities for viewing and photographing all sorts of wildlife from birds to bears. I have owned various makes and sizes of kayaks over the years, including one I built, but my go-to kayak now is a Wilderness Systems 10-foot Pungo. It is a nice combination of maneuverability, stability, weight, comfort, and for an old guy relatively easy to get in and out of. I have found the easie...

And that’s mostly true. Everyone from my former teachers to the cashier at the bodega know I’m terrible at math. My memory isn’t worth the paper I write everything down... Wow! And she writes for the newspaper with the motto "All the news that's fit to print". On the other hand, her article has prompted a fairly useful discussion of the value/or lack thereof of hir...

Re: Favorite socks?
Another endorsement for Darn Tough socks. I like wool socks for comfort but do not get much wear out of most brands. On my feet, Darn Tough wears longer than SmartWool. Plus, Darn Tough socks have a lifetime warranty for wear that I have taken advantage of a few times.

Re: Do you Mow your own Lawn?
Always did all my own lawn care, including mowing and trimming. But a year ago at age 75, I had some health issues which prevented me from doing the work and necessitated having it hired out.
Thankfully, I am once again hale and hearty but have opted to continue having it done for me. The service I hire has much better equipment, employs experienced landscapers, is reasonably priced, and the lawn has never looked better.
In the meanwhile, I have found other equally uninspiring ways to exercise (treadmill, elliptical, weight machines).

Re: How soon to cancel a credit card after signup bonus.
I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the Chase Freedom card. My Sapphire card will be charged the annual fee soon and I would like to cancel it. All of my points from both cards are in the Ultimate Rewards program (some with the Freedom card, but most with the Sapphire card). If I cancel the Sapphire card and transfer all those points to the Freedom Ultimate rewards is there any downside or potential of losing them?
