I am not less than 30. My time left is less than 30 years.

Yes, maybe I should purchase the 10 yr TIPS. But if inflation has not run
it's course in 10 yr, there may not be an equivalent investment available
when they mature. It is all a guessing game.

Thanks to all. I understand now.

I am buying at auction but since they are 30 Yr and I am less than 30 Yr, secondary market on sell side will be a necessity.

Mechanics of Individual TIPS

I plan to buy my first individual TIPS (for IRA via VBS). If I buy say $50K and later need to sell some can I just specify a portion (say $5K) to sell and remainder stays as is?
