I haven’t been posting during the pandemic as we have been converting an old farm shop into a cabin for weekend getaway . Had a 10inch Kobalt sliding compound saw. Had problems with it and replaced it with a 12 inch saw while under warranty. Very satisfied with the service from Kobalt on the issue. Also have a portable Dewalt 10 table saw. Both tools are great.

Hind sight is 20/20. Started my 401K in 1982. All the “experts” said save in a 401k. So I did all my saving inside tax deferred accounts. Fast forward 40 years and realize now that I should have saved some outside those accounts. Some in taxable some in Roth to diversify my taxes. Oh well worse problems to have. Don’t worry heirs will sort it out in a dew years.

Well in 08 I was 58 approaching retirement but was naive thinking the good times would keep on rolling . That fall I had open heart surgery. 09 saw my 401k cut in half. I just kept contributing and eventually recovered . Retired in Jan. 14. This feels nothing like 08. As posted . I see no wildness today. I remember the 87 crash the dot com debacle and 08 . Also may others Never sold during any of them. Select a asset allocation that lets you sleep at night. Save a part of every raise. Drive vehicles to their wheels fall off. Keep your head down at work with nose to the grindstone. It will all be ok.

5 years ago we werein almost the exact same place. We elected to take 40% in a annuity and the balance in a lump sum . We were concerned with the longevity of one spouse. The SS and partial pension created a floor income that could support either or both. Split decision. Either way y’all will be fine. You won! Enjoy. Relax. Don’t worry be happy.

5 years ago we made a bet with the insurance company at ages 64 & 62. We bet them one of us would live past 85. We took a guaranteed sum on either lives 100% joint and several. This helps me because she has little interest in financial matters. We took it for insurance against bad decisions. That cost us approximately 20000 dollars per hundred. We thought it was a fair deal. The deal gives us peace that with social security we will always enough to get us by.

I confess I have watched the market moves with little amusement. Not overly concerned at this time. It could drop another 20%. If you think it would ruin you then you are more risk averse than you think. Investing over 40years gives me the ability to withstand gyrations. Still got more than I retired with. Know where the next few years of withdrawals are coming from. All is good.

Your HO policy has a fraud clause in it. If you misrepresent the actual facts it could void the whole policy. Has it renewed since the couple moved in? If it has then you should immediately inform your company and or agent. You really have a multi family dwelling . It needs to be rated that way by the underwriting department.

Re: Should I be paying $1300/yr. for under/uninsured motorist protection?

Ok so you would be ok without it. But it also covers others in your vehicles. For example grand children, friends, your mother. This coverage stands in the place of someone else’s coverage. You carry big limits to protect you from others in case you are at fault but don’t want to give the same protection for your loved ones? 42 years in the claims business gives me horror stories I could relate for days. Keep the coverage. Questions for your agent: 1. Does this coverage stack? 2. If I carry it on only one vehicle will it apply to the others ?
