Re: Vanguard RMD Tax witholding
Not anymore. They took out the box option to select "do not withhold" on Federal. You can't even change the 10% or any other amount you want to withhold. I do estimated payments during the year and I want to withhold 0%. Who's running the ship at Vanguard. I'm getting tired of all the tweaks to a website that was perfect before they messed with it.

It doesn't do us any good to complain to one another. Vanguard is no longer what it used to be. It was a piece of cake to find what we were looking for, but not now. I spend more time trying to find what I want and it's a wild goose chase.
Have you noticed with other websites that we have to do all the work? It's menu after menu with no live person to talk to. Ask a question and maybe the menu has the right answer. The world is going NUTS.

Re: What motivated you to save money?
My Grandfather was the richest man in town. He owned many grocery stores. When the depression came he helped people by giving free food. He lost his shirt. My mother was in private school and had to return home. When she married she had nothing and my father worked in the mills as a weaver. We weren't poor but we struggled. My parents taught me that hard work pays off and how to handle money. I never forgot. Now at 79 I don't have to worry about money.

I have a MMF in my accts. Has anyone tried to buy funds/stocks from the MMF instead of having to go to the settlement fund first? If you want to buy a hot stock forget it. You have to put the money in the settlement fund and wait until they clear it for you to invest it. This isn't practical and Vanguard has lost it's mojo.

It worked out well as a come-on. As far as refiling the Rx again. They bumped it up to $14 for a 3 month supply which I can get through to CVS Caremark which delivers my drugs and lets me know when it's time to refill my Rx. The price from Caremark was $20 for a 3 month supply.

I'm not a day trader. But, what I resent having to sell to buy a stock with a MMF and can't complete the trade immediately. The money has to go to the settlement fund and I have to wait a day to buy a stock that's bounced back. I know put a limit price to buy and take my MMF out of my account and keep the settlement fund loaded so I can buy at a moments notice. Buy and sell was so easy prior to all the changes. It seems like everything is a 2 or 3 step process to buy stocks. I've been with Vanguard since 1978 and I'm not looking to go into a brokerage company.

It is a grantor trust. I'm 79 years old. I have VTSAX Total Stock Market Index Fund. I'm just trying to cut back on income taxes and looking for something other than stock investments. Every year I'm paying dividends on this as well as an RMD, Pension and SS. Through my RMD I do QCD's. I've also have most of my investments in a Roth accounts. I've been frugal all my life and live a modest life. Hope that clarifies my situation. Sorry to confuse you all.

Re: Vanguard Settlement Fund How to replace it.
All Vanguard brokerage accounts use the same settlement fund. You can't replace it. Vanguard's settlement fund is the Vanguard Federal Money Market Fund (VFMXX). You can't change that. Of course you can. Go to your Profile and select Banking, then Change My Settlement Fund. TheRealJohnDoe: My Banking menu does not have the Change My Settlement Fund option. I have a brokerage account. Are you on the old mutual funds platform? No, I have been on brokerage for a very long time. It could be that your account is only eligible for a single option for settlement fund, therefore no choice given. All my accounts (Brokerage, Roth IRA, and IRA) offer the choice of VMFXX (SPIC insured 4.3% SEC 7-day yield) or Cash Deposit (FDIC insured 3% APY). I was ...

Ok, I tried to get V to fix a Rollover before the 1099-R's came out. They said they couldn't because it was client issued.
When can I request a corrected 1099 and how long after that will it take Vanguard to get the corrected 1099 to me in order to amend my taxes?

I'm in the process of replacing my ADT security system with SimpliSafe. Once the ADT system is deactivated can I mount the new sensors in close proximity to where the old sensor is instead of trying to remove the deactivated sensor? ADT does a great job of mounting the sensors "permantetely". I don't want to destroy my house.
If I have to remove the old sensors can I use the old magnets with the new sensors, or do I have to remove that as well?
Any info would be helpful

I decided to check out Amazon Pharmacy. My wife and I take generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) 20mg for her and 10mg for me. We each pay $6 for a 6 month supply. So far, that's the only drug we take that is cheap. If you check the drugs you take, on their website you might get a better deal. My Dr. didn't have a problem going 6 months since we've been on it for years.
I'm a Prime Member, but I'm not sure that's necessary to join the Pharmacy.

Trust, taxes for beneficiaries
I have a trust in a Vanguard taxable acct. The only fund is Total Stock Market Index. It's money I don't need. It's building up and my beneficiaries will end up paying taxes on the gains if they sell. I'm currently paying taxes on the the dividends.
Is there a better way to save them/me from paying taxes? Whatever is left in my IRA they'll have to liquidate within 10 years. I also have a large Roth that will be divided up. I'm thinking of starting to invest new money into in "no dividend" stocks which is more of a benefit to me to cut my taxes or just forget it and let it all ride.

Vanguard and extra RMD taken by mistake
I took my RMD twice by mistake. I went to the transaction where the funds hadn't been removed because it was during the weekend. I saw both transactions and a "cancel" next to one. I selected cancel thinking all is well. Vanguard processed my request 2 days after the weekend. They did send 2 RMD withdrawals to my bank. Talking to the "Retirement Team" I was told I could send the money back as a "rollover" and put it back into my IRA. I did that but I'm not convinced I'm in the clear. I thought a "rollover" was only used for IRA to IRA. My bank account isn't an IRA. I did what they told me and got confirmation that it was done. When I check my RMD it still shows 2 RMD distributions taken for 2022. I do...

At the end of the quarter I used to be able to go into balances and holding and highlight my entire account, copy it and paste into a word doc so I could print it out in a few pages. Now, it takes 14 pages to print. Has anyone found a way to do it with the fisher price design? Even if I print it out and reduce the size in landscape it still doesn't fit on a page. This really sucks. I don't really want to download it to spreadsheet or other apps. It was so easy with the old format.

Re: Comparing YouTube TV and Hulu
I'd love to get rid of cable.
I'm with Spectrum and I want my regional sport teams. I wouldn't be able to get that with Youtube TV.
It's a jungle out there trying to figure out how to navigate the system. I wanted to go with fiber optics which is in my area but I've tried their website and hard as I try I'm not able to get to talk to a live person. Everything is menu driven by asking questions that they don't have an answer to my questions.
I'd buy my own DVR and probably Tivo but it appears that they've sold out to other companies and the technology has suffered. Everything is changing so rapidly that once I figure something out something new comes along. I found good info on Cnet and Clark.

Yeh, I know it's asking for more trouble by switching. It's not just one page, it's the entire website. I'm too old for this stuff. To make matters worse, Morningstar has updated their website as well and that's been my go to instead of farting around with Vanguard. At least MS is workable for me.
I've contacted my recent guy at Vanguard and he says "no way to going back to the previous style website" You'd think they would've put out a beta version to get our reaction to what they were doing.

I'm long retired and I take my RMD in Dec. and pay my taxes with it. My only income during the year is SS and pension which I have taxes withheld. This year I got a penalty from the IRS because I didn't pay taxes through estimated taxes. According to the article from Kiplinger's I'm ok with what I'm doing and the IRS is wrong. Anyone else have problems with this?

Re: Was not converting to Roth a good idea?
I wish I hadn't put so much in my tIRA. I've been adding to Roth since it was available, and converting yearly to and using QCD's to get my RMD down but it's still at 1M. I have 3M in Roth and I'm 77. My Roth is mostly stocks and aggressive funds.
Should I change my Roth approach to less aggressive stocks and funds? Stay the course? Roth is going to be used as last resort, inheritance and charities.
