Re: Are there skilled individual investors?

Can you please post the trades you are making moving forward, say, over the next year, on the days that you make them, so that we can see how you do it? We'll all learn something, and we can all retire rich if we follow along. Thanks! Hi floydtime, I'm a little late on this update but I closed all ...

Re: Berkshire Annual Letter Out Saturday

I'd really like to hear about some concrete examples of why people still refer to his writings as propaganda. What exactly is his agenda? Let's please use specifics here, there's over 30 years of writings to pick through. Otherwise we are just name calling. And he has given us tremendous amounts of ...

Re: Berkshire Annual Letter Out Saturday

I do not feel that Warren Buffett is intellectually honest in his public statements; I put him in the "spinmeister" category. So, no, I do not make a point of trying to absorb what he says. A good example would be his recent pronouncement about "bonds" being "among the most...

Re: Active investing and the Efficient Market Hypothesis

I have a couple of questions about the boglehead way of thinking. It seems like the conventional wisdom among this crowd is that active stock pickers cannot consistently beat the market. Part of that is surely due to higher costs (commissions, bid-ask spread, taxes) but it seems like people believe...

Re: What is the S&P's price to earning ratio

I find this site very readable and easy to use... m I'm not looking for something readable and easy to use. I'm looking for something that is accurate. This site state's the S&P's P/E is at 22.58 and has been unchanged since 2010. I can't imagine that to be true. Presumably, Standard and Poors ...

Re: Buy what you know is not a good strategy!

I'm curious about other people' input on this but there were a few things in the article that seemed a bit strange. If we follow the line of thought that buying what you know is not a good strategy for investing, all things equal, wouldn't this necessarily imply that a good investment strategy would...

PizzaOnTheMind: Welcome to the Bogleheads Forum! Just to lend myself at least some credibility: my net gain after these seven years is around 1036% or about 41.5% compounded rate of return on my (well, my mom's money) initial investment. You should be a mutual fund manager. I don't know of any that...

Re: Are there skilled individual investors?

PizzaOnTheMind: just out of curiosity what set of metrics do you use to determine when to get out of a stock. For example, say coke is trading at 1/4 of its book value you back up the truck and load it up, when do you sell? at 2x the book? 3x the book? Hi jda, I usually have a price target as well ...

Re: Are there skilled individual investors?

Hi all, Greetings from Sweden. Just registered to the forum (been reading for a while). I got a question for the bogleheads panel We know that some fund managers occasionally beat the market but very few show any alpha on a longer time frame. Some of those that actually do could have done it mostly...
